DJ Moore wants Keenan Allen to sign an extension with the Bears

DJ Moore signed an extension to remain with the Bears long-term. It didn't take him long to ask Keenan Allen how he could do the same. On Tuesday, Moore signed a four-year contract extension worth $110 million, with $82.6 million guaranteed. The deal was added onto his final two years that he already had, meaning Moore will be in Chicago through the 2029 season.

He will be part of a Bears offensive core for years to come that includes quarterback Caleb Williams, running back D'Andre Swift, wide receiver Rome Odunze, tight end Cole Kmet, and tackle Darnell Wright. Moore doesn't want to stop there, though. During his press conference on Wednesday, the Bears receiver was asked by NBC Sports Chicago's Josh Schrock about convincing Allen to stay long-term as well. It turns out Moore was already thinking ahead. "I already did that now," he said with a big smile. "I did that yesterday. I was like, 'Man, listen. What's your number? Let's get it done.' And I'm going to leave his number out of it, but I think we can get it done. It should be interesting."

Moore isn't your typical star wide receiver. He's a selfless player who has very few (if any) diva qualities and truly wants the best for the team, even if that means not getting the ball every passing play. He and Allen have been teammates for just over four months and they haven't even played a snap together in a game. And yet he's already pushing to get the perennial Pro Bowler to stay in Chicago with the aforementioned core. Moore isn't the general manager, though, so it won't be easy.

Allen, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Chargers in March, is making $23.1 million this season and is set to hit free agency in the spring. He reportedly declined a contract extension with the Chargers that would have been a pay cut, meaning at the very least he's looking to earn no less than $23 million per season. Moore wouldn't share the number Allen told him, but one could guess it's close to the deal he signed.

Could an extension with Allen still happen? It could, but it's unlikely at this point in time. According to Over The Cap, the Bears are set to have around $48 million in cap space heading into next offseason, and there will be more pressing needs that will have to be addressed. That number will fluctuate, but given that Moore and Odunze are already in tow for the foreseeable future, it feels as if Allen will be a luxury they won't be able to afford. Never say never, though. A lot can happen between now and next March, and Moore is motivated to keep his teammates around. It's just one of the many reasons why the Bears wanted to keep him around.
