‘Disconcerted and astonished’ – Curva Sud and AIMC hammer Milan leadership in statement

The Curva Sud and the AIMC have published another strong statement against the ownership of AC Milan for the way they have handled the change in coach.

The dismissal of Paulo Fonseca was announced yesterday morning and it came after quite a farcical few hours. The rumours first emerged before the Roma game, which ended a 1-1 draw, but Fonseca was unaware of his fate even after the match.

The Portuguese effectively had to confirm his own sacking on his way out of San Siro while the management did not say a word. Meanwhile, they acted quick to replace him and hired Sergio Conceiçao, who took charge of his first training session yesterday afternoon.

The Curva along with the AIMC (the Association for Milan Clubs) have published a joint statement which is targeted at those at the very top of the club.

“Last night we witnessed a situation with a development that was nothing short of surreal, in some ways incredible and certainly unacceptable for the badge and history of our glorious colours. With this we are not referring to the dismissal of the coach, which however easily imaginable, will not be the first nor the last.

“What leaves one disconcerted and astonished are the ways in which this happened: how can we accept that the coach himself is the one to communicate to the media that he has been fired, without the club coming out with an official statement, or better yet without any of its directors (big bosses first and foremost) showing up at a press conference to officially communicate it, with the aggravating circumstance of a decision that was clearly taken days ago?

“A management that spent an entire summer boasting of being firmly convinced of the Fonseca project (making the majority of the signings available to the coach only at the end of the transfer window) cannot be more credible when we only recently discovered the insertion of a clause linked to a possible dismissal within the first 6 months, which automatically causes the remaining years of the contract to lapse, a clear symptom that Fonseca’s was a fallback choice.

“We are witnessing an ownership that is trying in every way to Americanise the most glorious club in Italy, proposing crazy initiatives such as the 125th jerseys sold for €1899. The dream of some is to have 75,000 customers at San Siro to fleece every game and manage like puppets, with all due respect to the organised fans and all those who have followed these colours everywhere for years, making sacrifices.

“Not to mention the mini-pack affair, something never seen even in amateurs. Inadequate not only in the figures who manage the sporting part, but also in the roles that follow the commercial part linked to US fans, because it is right to highlight all the shortcomings of a club in the hands of people of disarming incompetence.

“To date, Milan for YOU is just a brand to speculate on, implementing strategies aimed only at developing the Brand to obtain important financial results, to the detriment of sporting successes that are no longer your priority. With the aggravating circumstance of not knowing the history of this club, of the players who have written unforgettable pages with our shirt and with the unforgivable absence of the ownership at the 125th anniversary party.

“And we could write pages and pages more, but now that you have found YOUR culprit (because YOU chose him), who, although he was not up to the task in terms of sport, has proven to be much more serious and more of a man than you who left him alone already in August, follow his path as soon as possible and free Milan from the mediocrity to which you have reduced it…”

The relationship between RedBird Capital and the Milan fans continues to be very strained, amid reports Gerry Cardinale is unhappy with the reaction to the news of the vendor loan being refinanced.
