Dirk Nowitzki shows he's still got it on first basket of the season
Dallas Mavericks big man Dirk Nowitzki might be 40, but he can drain shots from the post. Nowitzki proved he’s still got something left in the tank on his first basket of the 2018-2019 season.
Nowitzki, who missed the start of the season due to an ankle injury, made his season debut against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. With a little under three minutes to go in the first quarter, Nowitzki showed he’s still capable of punishing players down low.

Nowitzki only took two shots during his first game back. He finished with two points in the 99-89 loss.
The 40-year-old Nowitzki will look to give the Mavericks a boost the rest of the way. After going 24-58 last season, the Mavericks are off to a much better 15-12 start this year.
Despite his age, Nowitzki has made no announcement regarding whether he’ll play beyond this season. If this is it for him, perhaps the Mavericks will capitalize on their hot start and send Nowitzki out with one more playoff appearance.
