Yahoo Sports Didier Deschamps defiant over France future
France were beaten 2-1 by Spain in the semi-finals of Euro 2024, La Roja denying Les Bleus from reaching a third final in their last four major tournaments.
Didier Deschamps never truly got his side ticking in the tournament. Randal Kolo Muani, who netted the opener against Spain, was France’s only goal-scorer from open play in Euro 2024. Despite possessing a contract that runs until 2026 and despite his recent success, notably winning the 2018 World Cup, Deschamps’ future as manager was called into question following France’s elimination on Tuesday night.
Deschamps wasn’t happy with the question, calling for “respect” in light of Les Bleus’ semi-final defeat. “What happened, happened. I am here to respond to your questions [but] I won’t respond to that one today, even if you know my situation very well, you know full well what my president (Philippe Diallo) thinks so you maybe didn’t even have to ask the question,” said the France manager in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News. Deschamps clearly has the intention of managing France in the 2026 World Cup, after which his current deal will expire.
