Didier Deschamps confirmed to remain France manager

France crashed out of Euro 2024 at the semi-final stage after a 2-1 loss to Spain in Munich on Tuesday, however, the elimination won’t have a bearing on Didier Deschamps’ future as manager.

Deschamps had led France to the final in three of his last four major tournaments, however, he failed to do so in Germany. His side failed to click into gear throughout the tournament, not helped by a lack of fitness and form for key players, notably Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann.

“What happened, happened. I am here to respond to your questions [but] I won’t respond to that one today, even if you know my situation very well, you know full well what my president (Philippe Diallo) thinks so you maybe didn’t even have to ask the question,” said the France manager in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.

Speaking to L’Équipe, the head of the FFF, Diallo, has confirmed that Deschamps will remain in his role. “He has a contract (that runs until 2026) and has achieved the sporting objective that was set for him […] I see no need to call his contract into question. His past results speak for themselves and the objectives have been reached. Didier will continue his mission,” said Diallo.

Deschamps therefore looks set to continue in his role. His current deal runs until the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, set to be held in North America.
