Didier Deschamps booed by Lyon crowd ahead of France v Belgium
Boos could be heard by some cohorts of fans at the Groupama Stadium as Didier Deschamps’ name was announced before Les Bleus’ match against Belgium in the Nations League, as reported by Loïc Tanzi.
The France boss was not the only name to be booed by the Lyon crowd with Kylian Mbappé, Bradley Barcola and Mattéo Guendouzi also booed for obvious reasons related to their current or former club allegiances. However, the booing shows signs of dismay among fans of Les Bleus after an underwhelming performance against Italy last time out. Deschamps’ France team were defeated 3-1 by the EURO 2022 champions in their Nations League opener.
Despite the signs of distrust displayed by fans, FFF boss Phillippe Diallo has come out in support of Deschamps who has been criticised by the media and fans alike. Commenting on the future of the World Cup-winning head coach as boss of Les Bleus, Diallo said, “Didier is under contract until 2026, so as of today, the question isn’t a topic. The question now is, and I liked the word that Didier used, is breathing new life into this team. This breathing of new life is Didier’s will and I share that. I think he will use this Nations League to prepare for our major objective – the World Cup in 2026″.
