How did Simone Biles do Thursday? The GOAT wins second all-around gold medal

Simone Biles is once again on top. The now nine-time Olympic medalist kept her 11-year all-around winning streak alive by winning yet another gold medal in Thursday's all-around competition at the Paris Olympics.

Biles is now the first woman since 1968 to win two Olympic all-around titles. Although Biles withdrew from the all-around in Tokyo due to the "twisties," she won gold in dominant fashion at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Although Biles finished over one point ahead of Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, Biles found herself in unchartered territory in just third place at the halfway mark after a significant error on the uneven bars. Strong performances on beam and floor saw her reclaim her lead, though, and prove once again why she is the greatest gymnast of all time.

Andrade ultimately secured the silver medal, while Team USA's Suni Lee picked up the bronze following a phenomenal performance on floor.

How did Simone Biles do Thursday?

Biles got off to her usual strong start on vault, choosing to perform her monster Yurchenko double pike vault, also known as the Biles II, since she is the first and only female gymnast to perform it. With an unprecedented difficulty score of 6.4 points, Biles scored an impressive 15.766 points despite taking a large step back on the landing. Her score gave her an early lead over Andrade, who scored 15.100 after sticking her Cheng vault.

On the second rotation, uneven bars, Biles committed an uncharacteristic error on her release from the high to the low bar, bending her legs to avoid hitting the floor and falling off. Although she stayed on the bar and performed a flawless double-twisting double-back dismount, her final score was just 13.733.

Andrade and Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour – the gold medal favorite in the uneven bars – nailed their routines, surpassing Biles in the overall standings. Andrade led with 29.766 points, followed by Nemour’s 29.566 and Biles’ 29.499.

On the balance beam, Biles did enough under pressure to reclaim the lead with a solid routine that scored 14.566. Andrade responded with a beam score of 14.133, leaving the Brazilian just  0.166 points behind Biles heading into the final rotation.

Despite a clean routine from Andrade that scored 14.033, Biles finally sealed the deal on the floor with tumbling passes in a different league to the rest of the field. Scoring a massive 15.066, Biles finished 1.199 points ahead of Andrade to win gold.
