How did Simone Biles make history with her gold medal win at the Paris Olympics?

Simone Biles won her first Olympic gold medal in almost a decade when she helped lead the U.S. Women’s gymnastics team to first place in the women’s team final at Bercy Arena in Paris.

Biles was the last athlete to compete for the United States, and she electrified the crowd with her floor routine and her power and grace on the mat.

Biles won four gold medals in her Olympic debut and the recent win puts her in a four-way tie for the third-most golds won by any woman gymnast in history.

Biles wasn’t the only Texan on the U.S. roster as Hezly Rivera was also chosen for the team final.

The U.S. women took first with a score of 171.296, followed by Italy with 165.494 and Brazil with 164.497.

The only names ahead of Biles now are Věra Čáslavská who won seven gold medals for Czechoslovakia in the 1960’s and Larisa Latynina who dominated starting in the late 1950s with nine wins for the Soviet Union
