Did this national analyst just accuse TCU of stealing signs in the Fiesta Bowl win over Michigan?

The Michigan sign stealing scandal just won’t go away and this time TCU finds itself in the middle of the conversation on social media.

FOX analyst and commentator Joel Klatt appeared on “The Herd hosted by Colin Cowherd” on FS1 Tuesday and talked at length about a number of college football topics including the Michigan scandal.

While defending the Wolverines’ national title last season, Klatt insinuated that the Wolverines may not have been the only ones stealing signs when TCU faced Michigan in the 2022 College Football Playoff semifinals at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31, 2022.

“There’s this sub-culture of sign-stealing where people are sharing information,” Cowherd said during the segment. “It’s like Wall Street.”

In turn Klatt responded: “There’s at least rumblings that TCU had help in the playoff game.”

“Against Michigan?” Cowherd asked, which Klatt said was correct. Many on social media took that as Klatt insinuating TCU was stealing Michigan’s sign, but in reality Sonny Dykes has spoken numerous times about this supposed “help” TCU received ahead of the Fiesta Bowl.

“Coaches talk, we gossip more than anybody in the world,” Dykes said back in November. “There are no secrets and no honor among thieves and coaches. You start calling around and say ‘tell us about Michigan,’ and a lot of things come up. We had some time to sit and decide how we want to handle this.

“If you’re playing them in the regular season it’s much more difficult to do in five days than it is to have 21 days to think of a plan, to be able to change signals, learn signals and have dummy calls.”

In another interview earlier this year on Outkick’s Hot Mic with Jonathan Hutton and Chad Withrow, Dykes was asked about Michigan and had a similar answer.

““I think sign stealing is pretty common in college football, but I think that Michigan took it to a different level,” Dykes said. “So we made a couple of changes. It wasn’t anything Earth-shattering, but we made some changes to protect our offense and defense from them. I think it certainly helped us, and I don’t think that we would’ve been able to win that game had we not gotten some of that information.”

If this is the help Klatt is referring to, then it’s disappointing that one of the sport’s most prominent voices would equate being warned of Michigan sign stealing to the Horned Frogs stealing the Wolverines’ signs as many have interpreted online.
