What did Florentino Perez say to Real Madrid captain after Super Cup final thrashing?
Real Madrid were given a harsh reality check last night as FC Barcelona thrashed them 5-2 to win the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
It was an abysmal display from Los Blancos on the night with Kylian Mbappe and Thibaut Courtois the only two players who offered some positives.
The scoreline could have been much worse for Carlo Ancelotti’s men if not for Wojciech Szczesny’s second-half red card which forced Barça to take their foot off the pedal somewhat.
Florentino Perez’s message to Luka Modric
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was in attendance and watched his team crumble into a heap against their arch-rivals.
While the defeat will have hurt, the Los Blancos’ supremo offered words of comfort to Luka Modric during the trophy presentation after the Spanish Super Cup final loss.
“At some point, we have to lose a final, do we not?” Perez said to the 39-year-old Croatian midfielder in a moment captured by Movistar Plus+ cameras.
"Alguna vez tenemos que perder una final, ¿no?"

Modric is the most successful player in Real Madrid history in terms of trophies won, having already added two this season.
Real Madrid have already won two trophies this season in the form of the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. But it was not to be for them last night.
The manner of last night’s defeat against Barcelona calls for some deep introspection. However, the Merengues still have a lot to fight for in the season and cannot let Sunday’s result affect their confidence and morale.
Next up for Real Madrid is the Copa del Rey Round of 16 tie against Celta Vigo, post which they will be back in action in La Liga, taking on Las Palmas.
