Di Canio: Juventus ‘predictable’ and ‘too tidy’ against Club Brugge

Former Lazio and West Ham star Paolo Di Canio criticised Juventus for being too focused on not ‘taking risks’ and playing ‘too tidy’ in the last third in Tuesday’s goalless draw in the Champions League against Club Brugge.

According to the former player, now a pundit for Sky Sport Italia, the Bianconeri’s difficulties in creating and capitalising on chances depend on their tendency to play safe, which often leads them to dominate possession without being able to convert it into clear opportunities.

Thiago Motta’s side once again looked extremely sterile against the Belgian outfit, their most important chance wasted by Nico Gonzalez in the second half, as he mishit a promising ball from close range coming from Samuel Mbangula’s cross.

Di Canio: Juventus’ play ‘too tidy’ and ‘predictable’

Di Canio stressed how individual plays are currently Juventus’ only way to become less ‘predictable’.

“I get not wanting to take risks in front of the defence, but in the final third, you can’t play it too clean,” the 56-year-old said analysing the match for Sky Sport Italia, as quoted by Tuttosport.

“They’re missing that one-on-one upfront and the killer ball. In the last 25-30 meters, Juventus are playing it too tidy, and they become predictable unless Mbangula, Yildiz, or Conceição manage to create something out of nothing.”

The Bianconeri mustered a single shot on target against Club Brugge, which came late in the second half through Manuel Locatelli’s attempt from outside the box.
