The San Francisco 49ers are a mess this year, but the De'Vondre Campbell drama that popped up on Thursday night was just messy.

The linebacker refused to come back into the eventual loss to the Los Angeles Rams, which head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed in his postgame comments. Other Niners have weighed in already with their takes on the matter.

So what happened? What's the fallout? Why didn't he come back in? We've got you covered with a review of all of that.

Let's go over all of it as we look back on the bizarre incident on Thursday night:

He was seen walking off the field in the fourth quarter into the locker room

Prime Video footage showed it, and Shanahan said "he didn't want to play today."

Charvarius Ward called it some "sucker [expletive]" and that he'll probably get cut soon.

George Kittle said "I hope I'm never around anyone that does that again."

Will the 49ers cut De'Vondre Campbell after this?

Shanahan answered that with this, per USA TODAY Sports: “We’ll figure out something. I don’t know that right now.”

There's also this quote:

Later, Shanahan added that “When someone says that, you move on. You don’t deal with that anymore."
