Devils Veteran Goalie Steps Up Big Time

During the New Jersey Devils' Jan. 22 game against the Boston Bruins, Jacob Markstrom suffered an injury after Justin Brazeau collided into him. Following the game, Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe announced that Markstrom is expected to miss time, which is bad news for New Jersey.

Due to Markstrom's injury, Devils goalie Jake Allen replaced him with 16:51 left in the second period. While Allen entered in the middle of the contest, the 34-year-old netminder was not rusty in the slightest.

Allen was excellent for the Devils, saving all 16 Bruins shots he faced. With this, he broke his six-game losing streak and secured his first victory since Nov. 23 against the Washington Capitals.

Overall, Allen stepped up in a big way for the Devils in this contest. With Markstrom expected to be out, the hope from here is that Allen can keep this kind of play up.

In 15 games this season, Allen has a 6-8-1 record, a 2.66 goals-against average, and a .904 save percentage.
