Devils Should Trade For Surging Blackhawks Forward

The New Jersey Devils are one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, but it is no secret that they could use more depth scoring. Due to this, the expectation is that they will look to improve their forward group before the 2025 NHL trade deadline passes.

When looking at trade candidates around the NHL, one player who should grab the attention of the Devils is Chicago Blackhawks forward Ryan Donato.

On a bad Blackhawks club, Donato has played excellently. In 42 games this season, the Boston, Massachusetts native has 13 goals and 24 points. With this, he is currently on pace to crush his current career highs of 16 goals and 31 points, which he had in 74 games with the Seattle Kraken in 2021-22.

Donato is continuing to play well down the stretch, too, as he has two goals in his last three games. With this, he could be a solid, low-risk player for the Devils to bring in at the deadline.

If the Devils acquired Donato, he could be a potential replacement for Erik Haula at the third-line center spot. However, Donato offers great versatility, as he can also play on the wing. In addition, he would provide New Jersey with another option for their second power-play unit.

Donato also has an affordable $2 million cap hit until the end of the season, which adds to his appeal.
