Devils' Swiss Star Continues To Climb Assists Leaderboard

At Climate Pledge Arena, New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier earned his 17th assist of the 2024-25 season.

At the 7:56 mark of the first period, Hischier was credited with the primary assist on Dawson Mercer's 10th goal of the season.

It was the 26-year-old's 139th career primary assist in his 495th NHL game.

What is the significance of that number?

With that primary assist, Hischier surpassed Nino Niederreiter (138) for the fourth most by a Swiss player. The top three are Kevin Fiala (153), Mark Streit (167), and Roman Josi (297).

Regarding secondary assists, Hischier is tied with his Devils teammate Timo Meier for fourth place with 95.

The 2017 first-overall pick leads New Jersey with 19 goals this season, including six on the man advantage. He has taken a league-leading 1,034 face-offs and is the top penalty killer on the Devils among forwards.
