Devils' Sheldon Keefe Provides Injury Update on Erik Haula

Ahead of the New Jersey Devils' Monday night game against the Seattle Kraken, head coach Sheldon Keefe provided an update on veteran forward Erik Haula.

The 34-year-old missed Sunday afternoon's practice at Kraken Community Iceplex.

"He has an ankle injury," Keefe said on Sunday. "He is going to miss some time, getting an MRI right now. Once we get the (results) of that, then we will better know the timetable."

That timetable is weeks.

"He is going to miss some time," Keefe said Monday morning. "It is going to be weeks. In terms of the actual timeline, it will be on how he recovers. He has a sprain on his ankle that will take some time, for sure."

Haula will be further evaluated on Wednesday by Devils team doctors when the team returns to New Jersey.

Justin Dowling will replace Haula and center New Jersey's third line, with Curtis Lazar remaining on the fourth line.

The Devils held an optional skate at Climate Pledge Arena. The lines and pairs used at Sunday's practice were as follows:

Ondrej Palat - Jack Hughes - Jesper Bratt

Timo Meier - Nico Hischier - Stefan Noesen

Paul Cotter - Justin Dowling - Dawson Mercer

Tomas Tatar - Curtis Lazar - Nathan Bastian

Brenden Dillon - Dougie Hamilton

Jonas Siegenthaler - Johnathan Kovacevic

Luke Hughes - Brett Pesce

Jacob Markstrom/Jake Allen

The Devils will play the Kraken Monday night at 10:00 P.M., ET. Fans can watch on MSGSN or listen on the Devils Hockey Network.
