NEWARK, N.J. -- On Tuesday afternoon, the New Jersey Devils announced that forward Justin Dowling has been recalled from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Utica Comets.

Dowling joined the team after the Devils lost forward Curtis Lazar (lower-body injury) in their 6-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night.
Early in the second period, Lazar was hit by Anaheim captain Radko Gudas. A trainer helped the forward off the ice and down the tunnel. The 29-year-old did not put weight on his left leg or return to the game.
"He is going to miss some time," head coach Sheldon Keefe said.

Over the past two games, Keefe has made changes to his fourth line. Kurtis MacDermid was added to the lineup, while Nathan Bastian watched the last couple of games from above as a healthy scratch. With Lazar's injury, the Devils did not have an extra forward to accompany the team on their Western Canada road trip.
Dowling has four points (two goals, two assists) in six games with the Comets. The 2024-25 season marks his second with Utica.
In a corresponding move, the Comets recalled right winger Dylan Wendt from the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL. Wendt has appeared in two games for Utica and has one assist. The Comets' next game is scheduled for Wed. Oct 30.
