Devils PTO Options: James van Riemsdyk
Another day, another PTO option for the New Jersey Devils. This time, a more skilled, power forward than Cal Clutterbuck is. The New Jersey native, James van Reimsdyk, may be the best available forward left on the market.
The 35-year-old forward has plenty of experience playing in the Metro Division from his time with the Philadelphia Flyers. van Reimsdyk is 1000 game veteran in the NHL who may look New Jersey as his new home.
In a recent article about Clutterbuck, I had mentioned that he would be a good fit on the team because of Devils' GM Tom Fitzgerald additions targeting strength and size. For those exact reasons, is why van Reimsdyk would be a good fit.
Although van Reimsdyk doesn't bring a ton of grit to his game, he would provide the Devils with some more skill in their bottom six. He would be tasked with a different role than Clutterbuck would, but he could score in the neighbourhood of 35 points.
Last season, he played for the Boston Bruins and in 71 games, he had 11 goals and 27 assists for 38 points. While 38–40 points may be a stretch for van Reimsdyk, with how good the 2024-25 Devils team is supposed to be, it isn't impossible for him to achieve.
