Devils Lose Depth Forward In 4-2 Loss To Flyers
Nathan Bastian did not skate onto the ice with the New Jersey Devils for the third period of Monday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.
Seven minutes into the second period, Bastian entered the Flyers offensive zone and shot the puck deep. Nick Seeler laid a massive hit on the 27-year-old. A trainer came out as the Devils winger got up and headed straight down the tunnel into the locker room.

Defenseman Dougie Hamilton skated over to stick up for his teammate and received a cross-checking penalty against Seeler. The Flyers defenseman received two minutes for roughing. He did not receive a penalty for his initial hit on Bastian.
After the game, New Jersey head coach Sheldon Keefe was asked for an update on his depth forward but did not have any.
The Devils currently have four injured players, including Santeri Hatakka (shoulder), Jacob Markstrom (MCL sprain), Erik Haula (ankle), and Nico Hischier (unknown).
Bastian missed time earlier this season with a broken jaw that he sustained on Nov. 1 against the Calgary Flames. He returned to the lineup, wearing a full face shield, on Dec. 10.
The Devils and Flyers will face each other on Wednesday night at Prudential Center in Newark for their third meeting of the 2024-25 campaign.
