Devils' Jack Hughes Celebrates Milestone Against Kraken
New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes entered Monday night's game with six points in five games, including five assists, against the Seattle Kraken.
Sitting at 199 career assists, it seemed fitting that his milestone 200th would come at Climate Pledge Arena against a team that he has put up back-to-back multi-point performances.
At the two-minute mark of the third period, Dougie Hamilton skated the puck into the offensive zone and passed it to Hughes. At the hash marks of the face-off circle to the left of Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer, he found an open Ondrej Palat, who buried it for his ninth goal of the season.
A celebration ensued as Hughes earned his 200th assist on the eventual game-winning goal in his team's 3-2 victory.
Hughes celebrated his milestone in his 349th career NHL game. He now has the record for the fewest games required to reach 200 assists, surpassing Scott Gomez (351 games).
The 2019 first-overall pick (23) is the second youngest skater in franchise history behind Kirk Muller (22), who earned 200 career assists.
Through 43 games this season, Hughes has 48 points (15 goals, 33 assists). He is tied with Jesper Bratt for the team lead.
Hughes is the second Devils player to celebrate a milestone against the Kraken. In December, Timo Meier scored his 200th career NHL goal against Seattle.
