Ondrej Palat, Nico Hischier, Luke Hughes, and Dawson Mercer scored, while goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves on 31 shots.

New Jersey surrendered the game's opening goal halfway through the first period when Hurricanes forward Eric Robinson pounced on a loose puck behind Markstrom.

In 42 seconds, the Devils scored two quick goals to enter the intermission with a 2-1 lead. The Devils' defense was heavily involved, as Jonas Siegenthaler, Johnathan Kovacevic, and Luke Hughes earned assists.

Early in the middle frame, in the seconds following a Dougie Hamilton penalty, the Hurricanes tied the game at 2-2 on a Brent Burns wrist shot.

The youngest Hughes brother regained a one-goal lead for New Jersey minutes later with his third goal of the season. It would become the defenseman's first game-winning goal of the season.

Dawson Mercer beat opposing goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov four minutes later, scoring his ninth goal of the season. It was the 23-year-old's second goal in as many games.

The Devils limited the Hurricanes to seven shots in the final frame, with Markstrom playing perfect period, backstopping his team to their third straight victory.

New Jersey will be back in action Saturday night at 7:00 P.M. when they wrap up a home-and-home against Carolina at Lenovo Center.
