Yahoo Sports Devils Call-Up Reinforcements From The Comets
Injuries are a double-edged sword.
The New Jersey Devils are about to learn why. On the one hand, injuries mean you are losing a player, which you don't want, no matter who the player is. On the other hand, they create opportunity.
Right now, an opportunity is knocking for Shane Bowers, Justin Dowling, Nolan Foote, and Nick DeSimone.
The quartet was called up from Utica earlier on Monday, but the transactions will be recorded tomorrow for cap purposes.
Their recall is primarily due to the placement of Nathan Bastian on LTIR and Curtis Lazar on IR. Whether or not these players actually see the ice for Thursday's game is yet to be seen.

But the opportunity will be there.
Foote has had the best offensive season of the call-ups thus far. He has posted nine points in 12 games with the Comets. Last year, he played four games with the Devils, scoring a single goal and averaging 10 minutes per game.
Dowling was just sent down to the AHL yesterday. He has played nine games for the NHL club, contributing in a bottom-six role where he's averaged just over eight minutes a game.
Bowers hasn't been bringing much offense. In 13 games with the Comets, he has three assists.
Finally, DeSimone provides some welcome depth to the blue line. Last season, he saw 34 NHL games, including 11 with the Devils. He averaged 12 minutes a night in his 23 games with the Calgary Flames but saw 16:29 with the Devils.
