Devils Have 2 Interesting Targets From Kraken
On Monday (Jan. 6), the New Jersey Devils picked up a hard-fought 3-2 win against the Seattle Kraken. With this win, New Jersey improved to 25-15-3, while Seattle dropped to 17-21-3.
When looking at these two clubs' records, they are likely to have different plans for the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline. The Devils stand out as prime buyers, while the Kraken will likely be sellers.
Due to this, let's look at two specific Kraken players the Devils could consider pursuing.
Yanni Gourde
The Devils will look to add to their bottom six, and the Kraken offer a fascinating option in Yanni Gourde. The 33-year-old center is a pending unrestricted free agent standing out as a clear rental candidate.
Gourde would be a great addition to the Devils' forward group. This is because he is a gritty forward who kills penalties and also has two Stanley Cup championships on his resume. In 35 games this season, he has six goals, 16 points, and 58 hits.
Brandon Tanev
Brandon Tanev is another fascinating pending UFA from the Kraken who could be a solid addition to the Devils' lineup. He would slot nicely in their bottom six and, like Gourde, works on the penalty kill because of his strong two-way play.
In 40 games this season with the Kraken, Tanev has seven goals, 14 points, 70 blocks, and 88 hits. Overall, he can provide decent offense in a bottom-six role and plenty of grit, so he could be a good player for the Devils to add.
