Detroit Red Wings Recall William Lagesson

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled defenseman William Lagesson from the Grand Rapids Griffins, it was announced Friday.

Lagesson, a 2014 fourth round pick of the Edmonton Oilers, has spent the entire season so far with the Griffins, posting two goals and eight points in 20 games.

Before joining the Red Wings this offseason, Lagesson spent the 2023-24 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Anaheim Ducks, collecting four assists in a combined 40 games.

Over parts of five NHL seasons, Lagesson has played for the Maple Leafs, Ducks, Oilers and the Montreal Canadiens. In that span, he has put up 11 assists.

With Lagesson being recalled by the Red Wings, he will fit well into a depth role if called upon. Although he might not be able to secure a full-time role, Lagesson is reliable in his own end and makes good decisions with the puck.
