Deron Winn says he’s out of UFC Fight Night 216 after fainting, falling down stairs at UFC PI
The final UFC event on the 2022 calendar is down a fight following an unfortunate accident.
Middleweight Deron Winn revealed that he is now out of his preliminary matchup against Julian Marquez after fainting and falling down a flight of stairs at the UFC Performance Institute on Wednesday. Winn (7-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) said in a social media post that he suffered a mild concussion and was pulled from Saturday’s bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
UFC officials did not immediately return a request for comment to MMA Junkie regarding the situation. The promotion has yet to make an announcement.
“Hey all- yesterday at the UFC PI, I fainted and had a freak accident,” Winn shared on Twitter. “I fell down the stairs, hit my head and neck pretty hard. Sustained a mild concussion.”

“They rushed me to the hospital and ran a bunch of tests on me,” Winn continued. “The majority of the tests came back normal, so I’m thankful for that. Since I suffered the concussion the UFC and medical staff has decided to pull me from my fight this weekend. I am devastated. I have put so much work in these last couple months. I hope to rebook soon. Sorry to my opponent, and sorry to all (who) have invested into me this camp. I’m heartbroken. Love all.”
The bout would have been Winn’s second of the year after a loss to Phil Hawes in June. After that fight, Winn required surgery for an orbital fracture.
As of now, it’s unclear if Marquez (9-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will remain on the card against a short-notice opponent or be rescheduled to fight at a later date.
