DeMar DeRozan excused from Raptors for 'personal reasons'
As the Toronto Raptors prepare for Saturday’s big game against the Boston Celtics, the status of star guard DeMar DeRozan appears to be up in the air.
DeRozan, who was excused from Toronto’s practice on Thursday, has reportedly flown to his hometown of Los Angeles in order to be with his ailing father. DeRozan has reportedly made several trips to L.A. throughout the season as his father, Frank, battles with a kidney issue. Concerned with the severity of his father’s health issues, DeRozan has even made the quick trip to the west coast between game nights.

DeRozan made headlines several weeks ago when he made mention of his mental health on Twitter, sparking a positive conversation about mental health awareness that drew the support of fellow NBA star Kevin Love. The conversation included DeRozan admitting to his struggles with anxiety, depression and stress, as he reminded fans that NBA stars struggle with everyday issues the same as everyone else.
This depression get the best of me…

DeRozan’s departure from Toronto puts his availability for Saturday’s tilt against the Celtics in question. Toronto is about to embark on a three-game stretch against Boston and Cleveland — a playoff primer against the two teams the Raptors will likely have to beat in the postseason if they hope to reach the NBA Finals.
