“Deal done”: Fabrizio Romano confirms Willy Kambwala has completed his Villareal medical

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Willy Kambwala has passed his Villareal medical and in the process, all but completed his exit from Manchester United.

On Saturday, Romano revealed that Villareal were nearing an agreement with United over a permanent move for Kambwala.

It was stated that the Red Devils would earn a sum of around €10 million from parting ways with their academy graduate.

United have a buy-back option and negotiated a sizeable share of any sell-on fee for the French centre-back.

Kambwala made 10 appearances for the first team during the 2023/24 season, including eight in the Premier League and two in the club’s successful FA Cup campaign.

He made his senior debut for the 20-time English champions in December 2023 when he started in a 2-0 defeat to David Moyes’ West Ham at the London Stadium. He was then thrust back into the action in April when he once again started in an enthralling 2-2 clash vs. Liverpool.

Against Liverpool in particular, the 19-year-old was brilliant in the way he helped keep the likes of Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz quiet.

During a campaign marred by injuries, particularly in the defensive line, Erik ten Hag’s side found an astute replacement in Kambwala.

The player had a year left on his contract and rejected United’s most recent contract offer.

Earlier on Sunday, Romano gave an update on Kambwala and indicated that he passed his United medical.

The Italian journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Willy Kambwala has just completed medical tests as new Villarreal player.”

“Deal done with Manchester United on €10m package add-ons included with buy-back and sell-on clause.”

“Here we go, confirmed.”

It seems that all that’s left is an official confirmation from either Villareal or United.
