Daytime road work to slow I-5 traffic near Tumwater starting Friday morning

Robert Mittendorf/The Bellingham Herald

Road work will slow northbound traffic on Interstate 5 between Grand Mound and Tumwater Friday and Saturday mornings.

Work crews will conduct maintenance in the median between mileposts 88 and 102, according to a news release from Washington State Department of Transportation. Work will occur from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, June 9-10.

Litter removal and sweeping activities are planned. Travelers are advised to watch out for left lane closures as well as several slow-moving vehicles on the shoulder and in the left lane.

WSDOT chose to schedule this work between the morning and afternoon rush hours in the interest of safety. The release says driver behavior is generally better then and workers and work zone signs are more easily seen.

WSDOT advises travelers to slow down in work zones, pay attention to traffic and be kind to workers on the roadway.

The public can see real-time traffic information on the WSDOT statewide travel map, the WSDOT app and WSDOT regional Twitter account.
