🎥 On this day: Sergio Agüero had the dream PL debut for Man City in 2011
With the 2024/25 Premier League season a day away, fans up and down the country (bar Liverpool) will be hoping their club’s new star signing gets off to the dream start in their colours.
However, they are unlikely to top Sergio Agüero’s league debut for Manchester City, which came on this day 13 years ago.
The brilliant Argentinian didn’t even start the 4-0 win against Swansea City at the Eithad, but grabbed two goals in the 31 minutes he got off the bench. The first was a tap-in, while the second was straight out of the top drawer.

258 more goals would follow for Agüero in sky blue, as he broke all sorts of records for the club in his 10 seasons in Manchester.
While a debut brace is the stuff of dreams, a hat-trick is beyond that, with Fabrizio Ravanelli for Middlesbrough in 1996 being the only player in Premier League history to net one on his first outing.
What odds on a repeat of either man’s heroics this weekend?
