Barcelona faced their first big test under new manager Hansi Flick last night as they faced Manchester City in a pre-season friendly in the USA.

And, a youthful Blaugrana side stood up to the challenge and made a huge impression as the game ended in a 2-2 draw before Barça prevailed on penalties.

Pau Victor, who joined Barcelona permanently from Girona earlier this month, scored his first senior goal for the team while Pablo Torre was also on target after netting in the friendly vs UE Olot.

Inaki Pena impressed in goal while Ander Astralaga did well in the penalty shootout for Barcelona.

Pau Victor delighted

Speaking after the match, Pau Victor expressed his sheer joy after scoring for the Barcelona first team against Manchester City, as he said:

“I’m very happy, it’s a day I’ll remember all my life. I hope to continue like this and help the team in whatever way I can. I hope it will be an exciting season, I’m very motivated, I want to show that I can be here, hopefully, I can stay and score many more goals.”

Up next for Barcelona is a special game, El Clasico against Real Madrid, and Victor expressed his desire to want to play against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, saying:

“In the end, the Clásico is just another game where I want to show what I can do. At the moment I’m very focused on taking it day by day, I’m not looking beyond the next training session. I’m working to stay.”

The 22-year-old Spaniard also insisted that he would have liked to speak to Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland after last night’s game.

“I haven’t been able to talk to Haaland, I would have liked to,” he said.

There have been talks about Pau Victor being loaned out or even being sold for a profit by Barcelona this summer. But the youngster believes that he is right where he needs to be.

“I trust in myself, these are decisions that don’t depend on me, I think I can stay. Flick asks us to be aggressive, to press, to be confident. Barça is the best place where I can grow.”

“I will ask my teammates to sign the ball for me, this has reminded me of my family, my partner, my friends, who have stayed up until late,” he added.
