A great success for FCB defender Alphonso Davies and the Canadian national team! Coach Jesse Marsch's team have reached the quarter-finals of the Copa América. In their final group game against Chile overnight on Sunday, a 0-0 draw was enough for Canada following a 2-0 defeat to Argentina and a 1-0 victory over Peru.

Davies again led his country out as captain in Orlando, USA and played the full 90 minutes. After a second booking for Chile's Gabriel Suazo in the 27th minute, the Canadians had a man advantage for over an hour and had more of the game. A goal by Tanitoluwa Oluwaseyi was disallowed for a tight offside call and it ultimately finished 0-0.

The Reds finish Group A in second place with four points behind Argentina (nine) and ahead of Chile (two) and Peru (one). Davies and Co meet the winners of Group B in the early hours of Saturday, currently occupied by Venezuela (six points) ahead of Ecuador and Mexico (both three).
