Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with French club Marseille over the transfer of forward Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks, with the player linked to a number of top clubs in Europe including Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Lazio and of course, Marseille.

Interest in Greenwood intensified following a stellar 2023/24 season in Spain with Getafe that saw the player find the back of the net 10 times in 36 appearances across all competitions.

He was named Getafe’s Player of the Season award.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Greenwood turned down Lazio as his preference is to join Marseille this summer.

It was mentioned that Marseille had submitted a verbal bid for the 22-year-old and were keen to finalise an operation to secure the player’s services as soon as possible.

David Ornstein of The Athletic has now given a huge update and indicated that United and Roberto De Zerbi’s side have found common ground regarding a transfer fee for Greenwood.

“Marseille have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign Mason Greenwood, although the proposed move remains subject to the forward’s approval.”

“The deal would see the Ligue 1 side pay their Premier League counterparts €31.6million (£26.7m), comprising €27.6m (£23.3m) fixed and €4m (£3.4m) in add-ons, plus a large share of any future sale.”

“Any potential move to the south of France would see the 22-year-old work under former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi, who was named Marseille’s new head coach in June.”

United will certainly be hoping that Greenwood speedily agrees personal terms with Marseille so that the funds generated from his sale can be added to the Red Devils’ transfer kitty.

The 20-time English champions are currently working on deals for stars such as Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern Munich), Leny Yoro (Lille), Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton) and Joshua Zirkzee (Bologna).
