Manchester United have reportedly been informed by Everton that they have no intention of selling Jarrad Branthwaite despite the collapse of their proposed takeover.

Branthwaite has been repeatedly mentioned as a key target for United as they go about overhauling their defensive department ahead of the upcoming season.

Last month, United tabled an opening bid for the England international, which was swiftly rejected by the Toffees as it fell significantly below their valuation of him.

Erik ten Hag’s side returned with a second and improved offer worth a total of £50m. Yet again, this package was turned down by Everton, who have maintained that Branthwaite falls in the same price bracket as the likes of Harry Maguire, Josko Gvardiol and Wesley Fofana, who all secured moves in excess of £75m over the past five years.

It was stated that United were expected to go in for a third time for Branthwaite. Personal terms between the club and the player’s camp have already been agreed on.

The Red Devils’ hopes of landing one of their top targets were handed a boost after it recently emerged that Everton’s proposed takeover by the Friedkin Group had collapsed.

American billionaire Dan Friedkin pulled his firm out of the discussions to complete a buy-out of Everton due to legal concerns over debts relating to former failed takeover hopefuls 777 Partners.

David Ornstein has given an update on the matter and indicated that Everton are still adamant they will not part ways with Branthwaite even as their uncertain financial situation goes on.

According to Ornstein, “Everton have informed Manchester United they do not intend to sanction Jarrad Branthwaite’s exit this summer, irrespective of their proposed takeover by the Friedkin Group (TFG) collapsing.”

“The Athletic reported on Friday that TFG’s deal for Everton was off, plunging the Premier League club back into a precarious financial situation. It raised speculation Branthwaite may need to be sold and that United could yet land a target for whom they have seen two offers turned down.”

“But Everton view this development as changing nothing in regard to the 22-year-old centre-back and maintain that his departure will not even be considered unless their valuation is satisfied. This has been relayed to United, with further approaches not welcome at Goodison Park.”

The Merseyside outfit are on the brink of offloading Amadou Onana and if they need more funds, they are more likely to entertain offers for stars like Calvert Lewin before Branthwaite.

Meanwhile, United remain in talks with Bayern Munich over the transfer of Matthijs de Ligt. Already, the 20-time English champions have secured the services of one top-class central defender – Leny Yoro.
