David Montgomery injury update: Lions' RB exits with shoulder injury vs. Colts

The Lions haven't experienced much losing in 2024. While their record reflects just one losing effort, which will likely remain the case by the end of Week 12's game against the Colts, that doesn't include the ones that don't appear in the standings.

David Montgomery, Detroit's bruising star running back, departed late in the third quarter of Sunday's game with an apparent injury. He walked back to the locker room without a jersey or shoulder pads but later appeared in the fourth quarter with his uniform back on. However, he did not return.

Here is the latest on Mongtomery.

David Montgomery injury update

Montgomery exited in the third quarter against the Colts and did not return with a shoulder injury. He was initially listed as questionable, but the running back said he will be ready to play against the Bears on Thanksgiving, adding it was a smart decision to let him rest.

It's unclear when he was hurt, but Montgomery's style of play certainly lends itself to these potential problems. He carried the ball eight times for 37 yards and a touchdown, adding three receptions for 36 yards before exiting.

Lions RB depth chart

With Montgomery likely to play on Thursday, it's expected he'll continue being the team's 1A option in the backfield. Gibbs makes up the other half of the two-headed monster, with Reynolds and Vaki serving as added depth if one of the two gets hurt.
