The postponed Valencia-Real Madrid match, originally scheduled for matchday 12 of the First Division, has now been rescheduled for Thursday, 2 January 2025, confirms a report from SPORT.

It must be noted that the postponement occurred earlier due to the severe DANA storm that hit the Valencian province, disrupting the original fixture.

This decision was made by the sole judge of professional competitions after reviewing the proposals submitted by both clubs.

Valencia suggested the match be played on the 2nd of January, while Real Madrid proposed the 5th. After carefully considering both options, La Liga accepted Valencia’s suggestion, setting the new date for the 2nd.

What did the judge say?

One key factor in the judge’s decision was the Copa del Rey round of 16, scheduled for 5 January 2025.

Both clubs are involved in this competition, with Valencia having already advanced past the third round, while Real Madrid will enter the Copa del Rey at this stage.

Playing the match on 5 January would have conflicted with these cup ties, possibly requiring changes to the Copa del Rey schedule and causing inconvenience to other teams involved.

“Once the respective proposals have been carefully analysed, it seems appropriate to resolve that the match will be held on 2 January, for the first reason.

“This is because, on 5 January 2025, the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey is scheduled, in which both Clubs participate,” he said.

Additionally, the judge pointed out that holding the match on 5 January would clash with the Three Kings Parade, a major event in Spain that could lead to increased security concerns and reduced accessibility to the stadium for fans.

“On the other hand, there is another reason of no less importance, since, if the match were held on the 5th, it would coincide with the celebration of the Three Kings Parade,” he added.

The decision to move the match to 2 January was therefore made with these issues in mind, ensuring a safer and more convenient experience for both players and spectators.

In conclusion, the match between Valencia and Real Madrid will take place on 2 January 2025, avoiding conflicts with both the Copa del Rey and the Three Kings Parade.
