Depth, defense among reasons Danny Green is fired up about Raptors' hot start

If you’re looking for an analogy involving the Toronto Raptors, their depth and things found in nature, you won’t hear anybody talking about puddles.

No sir.

This year’s Raptors squad is much more like a gorge and Danny Green spoke about that in the latest episode of his podcast Inside the Green Room alongside Harrison Sanford.

From the top of the lineup to the bottom, it seems like anyone can step up and make a contribution to this team on any given night. At the beginning of the year, the newly-acquired Kawhi Leonard appeared to be unstoppable and manufacture great stat lines on the regular.

Since then, fans have seen players like Pascal Siakam put up single-game career highs in points and Kyle Lowry set up teammates like he’s Erik Karlsson running a power play for the NHL’s San Jose Sharks.

Green, a veteran and clutch shooter on the squad, has been encouraged by what he’s seen early on.

“We got guys that can do so many different things,” he said. “So most teams have, like, one through eight, one through seven, maybe even one through, you know, nine or ten. We have one through fourteen guys that can play and are really good…”

That depth will be put to the test in the next few weeks. The injury bug has bit the Raptors pretty aggressively as of late. Norm Powell is out long-term, Serge Ibaka missed the team’s last game and Green himself left Wednesday night’s contest against the Detroit Pistons with lower back tightness.

If Toronto hopes to end their current two-game losing streak on Friday night in Boston, a complete team effort, one through fourteen, will be required.
