Keith Thurman (L), shown in a win in June over Shawn Porter, will meet unbeaten Danny Garcia on March 4 for the WBA-WBC welterweight title.

One of the best fights that can be made in boxing was announced for March 4.

Welterweights Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman will fight at a venue to be named for the WBC and WBA welterweight titles. They’ve long been among the best in the world, but Garcia has come under intense criticism for failing to take the biggest bouts.

But Garcia-Thurman is a legitimate, big-time bout. The match will air either live in primetime on CBS or on Showtime.

It was one of a series of bouts that Showtime/CBS announced on Tuesday.

Its next card will be on Dec. 10 and will mark the return of Richard Schaefer as a promoter. Schaefer, who now runs Ringstar Sports and was formerly the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, will put on a double header on Showtime that features Jesus Cuellar against Abner Mares for the WBA featherweight title and Jermal Charlo against Julian Williams for the IBF super welterweight title.

That bout will be on Showtime.

On Jan. 14, Badou Jack and James DeGale will square off on Showtime in a WBC-IBF super middleweight unification.

The rematch between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz will be on Jan. 29 on Showtime. Mikey Garcia will challenge Dejan Zlaticanin for the WBC lightweight title on the undercard.

And on Feb. 11, Adrien Broner will return on Showtime to meet Adrian Granados in a super lightweight bout.

The big news is the Garcia-Thurman bout, which fans have been hoping to see for more than a year.

Garcia, who is 32-0 with 18 knockouts, faces Samuel Vargas in a tune-up bout at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia on Nov. 12. Garcia has several notable wins in his career, including a fourth-round knockout of Amir Khan and a decision over Lucas Matthysse.

Thurman is 27-0 with 22 knockouts and is coming off an action-packed victory over Shown Porter that is a 2016 Fight of the Year candidate.
