Dani Olmo explains his celebration after debut winner for Barcelona
Barcelona star Dani Olmo has on Wednesday provided an insight into the reasoning behind his new-look goal celebration.
The name of midfielder Olmo, of course, has positioned itself front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the course of the last 24 hours.
This comes after the 26-year-old announced himself to the Barcelona faithful with a bang.
Finally registered with La Liga after being forced to sit out his new club’s first two fixtures of the campaign, Olmo was introduced off the bench at the interval in the Blaugrana’s meeting with Rayo Vallecano.
And the attacking midfielder went on to prove the catalyst in a comeback victory.
After Pedri tied things up on the hour mark, Olmo netted what ultimately stood as the game’s winner inside the closing ten minutes, courtesy of a fine left-footed finish.
Upon his strike finding the net, the Euro 2024 winner wheeled away towards the travelling fans at Vallecas, before unveiling a new-look celebration.
This saw Olmo, alongside teammate Lamine Yamal, point towards his wrist, as if he were wearing a watch.
Drawn on his actions post-match, the former RB Leipzig star, in turn, went on to provide an explanation for as much:
“The meaning of the celebration? There’s a player in the NBA that does it, Damian Lillard. I took it from him.”
Damian Lillard, who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks, has famously coined his celebration – which generally comes out late in tightly-contested games – as ‘Dame time’.
