Barcelona president Joan Laporta finds himself in a crucial phase of his tenure as reports emerge regarding his standing with the club members and the potential challenges ahead.

According to journalist Santi Gimenez via AS, Laporta continues to enjoy strong support from Barcelona’s members, largely owing to his ability to navigate the club through some of its most turbulent moments.

However, a potential failure in handling the Dani Olmo situation could pose a significant threat to his leadership.

Laporta has always finished the job

Laporta’s reputation as a problem-solver has been a cornerstone of his presidency. In his first term, he managed to register Memphis Depay thanks to Gerard Pique’s decision to take a pay cut.

The following year, he found ways to secure Jules Kounde’s registration through guarantees from the board and resolved Gavi’s status with a precautionary measure.

More recently, he worked miracles with Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo, ensuring their registration through additional guarantees.

This year, the injury to Andreas Christensen allowed Olmo to feature after missing the first two games due to registration issues.

Olmo’s case is crucial

Despite these successes, the ongoing challenges surrounding Olmo’s registration could heavily influence Laporta’s final year in office. With his term set to conclude in 2026, opposition figures are beginning to gain momentum.

As such, Victor Font has been vocal in recent months, while other potential candidates, including Camprubi Montal and Jordi Termes, are making their presence known.

Termes, notably linked to the Bizum platform, has raised questions about Laporta’s leadership, adding fuel to the brewing political contest.

Meanwhile, Xavi Vilajoana, a pre-candidate in the previous election, is expected to announce his candidacy soon.

While individual opponents may struggle to compete with Laporta’s charisma, a unified opposition could create the most formidable challenge he has faced in his tenure.
