Dani Olmo’s £50 million RB Leipzig release clause set to be triggered before deadline amid Manchester City interest
In light of outstanding individual performances at the ongoing European Championships, Dani Olmo appears set for a big-money move this summer.
Manchester City have long been tipped as admirers of the player’s talents and assessed the possibility of a transfer during the last summer transfer window, at a time when the club were seeking cover for Kevin De Bruyne following his long-term injury.
The Premier League champions have been widely expected to return this time around, as Etihad Stadium officials seek recruitment in the middle of the park amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the longevity of De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva in Sky Blue.
Olmo’s outings at the European Championships for Spain, en route to the showpiece final on Sunday evening, have heightened attention on the versatile playmaker, after an output of three goals and two assists across his five appearances.
And with a somewhat favourable release clause being highlighted across the media in recent weeks, despite its imminent expiry next week, a new report has detailed the expected outcome from a number of potential suitors.
According to the information of The Mirror’s Ryan Taylor, Dani Olmo’s £50 million RB Leipzig release clause is expected to be triggered before it expires on Monday, amid ongoing starring performances at the European Championships in Germany.
The report details that there are clubs from both the Premier League and Spain ready to meet the 26-year-old’s release clause in the Bundesliga following ‘background discussions’ in recent days and weeks.
While Manchester City have been heavily linked with the player both in England and Germany, The Mirror names Chelsea as one of the clubs to have shown ‘concrete interest’ in landing the Spaniard, while Liverpool are ‘unlikely’ to move.
But what sort of transfer fee could RB Leipzig demand beyond the player’s release clause after Monday? The report states that should clubs show interest beyond his deadline next week, the Bundesliga club will demand between £60 million and £70 million.
At present, it remains unknown as to whether Manchester City have any interest in signing Dani Olmo via his release clause, having already turned down one opportunity to recruit through a similar contractual factor.
Bruno Guimaraes has been a primary target since the opening of the ongoing summer transfer window, although Manchester City’s interest in the player did not extend to a willingness to sanctioning the activation of his £100 million release clause, which has since expired.
City officials are still expected to intensify their interest in Guimaraes in the coming weeks, and will look to approach Newcastle United should the player show a desire to join Pep Guardiola’s Etihad Stadium project.
