Daily Dime: The show goes on for Giancarlo Stanton

Welcome back for the second half of the ’16 fantasy baseball season. As you get set to dive in on the final two-and-a-half months of Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball, we wanted to make sure you were apprised of the subtle scoring changes made to our DFS format. These changes are as follows:

1. ADD 2 points for HBP batters – This tweak was given two enthusiastic thumbs up by Tampa Bay outfielder Brandon Guyer, who led MLB with 20 beans despite playing in just 51 first-half games.
2. REDUCE pitcher wins to 4 points (from 8 points) – Yeah, in retrospect, we have to admit Wins were a little overinflated. Toronto’s J.A. Happ (12 wins) and Boston’s Rick Porcello (11) have certainly been quality starters up to the All-Star break, but considering they are getting well over six runs of offensive support per game, they are the poster boys for why pitchers shouldn’t get quite so much credit for a victory.
3. INCREASE each pitcher out from .6 to 1
4. SUBTRACT each baserunner (H+BB+HBP) by 1 from pitcher – The intent of these final two tweaks is to better represent the good/bad of a pitcher’s WHIP performance

As always when playing Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball, be sure to check the final lineups and the weather.

My full lineup (for all games starting after 4 pm PT):

SP: Stephen Strasburg ($55) – Pay for the Nats’ ace (vs. Pittsburgh), who has won three of his past four contests and has allowed 2 ER or less in 11 of 16 starts this season

SP: Anthony DeSclafani ($37) – Since coming off the DL, DeSclafani has produced a Quality Start in five of six turns, and will face a Milwaukee offense that has managed just the second-lowest Slugging% in MLB

C: Salvador Perez ($14) – Counting the All-Star game, he’s homered in three of his past four games, and he owns a 1.230 lifetime OPS mark in 46 career ABs vs. Detroit RHP Justin Verlander

1B: Mike Napoli ($15) – Another history card play here, Napoli has delivered a ridiculous .955 SLG% mark in 22 career ABs vs. Minnesota RHP Ervin Santana

2B: Howie Kendrick ($13) – Kendrick carries a seven-game hitting streak and a .351 July batting average into his meeting with Arizona LHP Patrick Corbin, who he is 4-for-9 (.444) against in his career

3B: Travis Shaw ($12) – Shaw is reasonably priced, and has had reasonable success against Yankees RHP Michael Pineda (three hits in 10 career ABs)

SS: Jose Reyes ($13) – Reyes has three home runs in his past four games, including two in his final contest before the AS break – he’s also 8-for-21 (.381) in his career facing Philly RHP Jeremy Hellickson

OF: Giancarlo Stanton ($20) – Stanton feasted on batting practice offerings during the break’s home run derby – like, seriously, devoured them – but let’s not forget he was doing some pretty good damage to the live bullets leading into the break, with five home runs in the final five games of the first half – and Stanton treated St. Louis LHP Jaime Garcia like a batting practice pitcher in their previous meetings (2-for-4, HR)

OF: Corey Dickerson ($13) – Dickerson is always of interest against righties, especially when it’s Baltimore’s Yovani Gallardo, who Dickerson has tagged for four hits (including a HR) in six ABs this season.

OF: Josh Reddick ($8) – Reddick is a cheap place to fish for offensive production as he’s hitting .338 against righties, and faces Toronto RHP Marcus Stroman, who has allowed the fifth-most Total Bases to lefty hitters
