Cyclones' Chas Sharpe Receives Weekly Award

Chas Sharpe of the Cincinnati Cyclones had a week many defensemen dream about.

The 21-year-old Orillia, Ont. native scored four goals and added an assist for five points in three games last week. On Tuesday, the ECHL awarded his fine performance with the Inglasco Player of the Week honor for Jan. 13-19.

Sharpe becomes the first Cyclone player to win the award this season. Last Wednesday, he tallied a goal in Cincy’s 3-1 victory over the Utah Grizzlies. He potted a pair of goals in a 6-1 win over the Maine Mariners on Friday, then scored a goal and a helper in Saturday’s overtime loss to the Indy Fuel.

Sharpe is a big reason the Cyclones have gone 9-3-1 over their last 12 games. Under an American Hockey League contract with the Toronto Marlies, the 6-foot-3, 201-pound right-shot blueliner leads ECHL defensemen with 15 goals and ranks seventh among blueliners with 26 points in 39 games with Cincinnati.

Before his professional career, Sharpe played in 222 games with Mississauga of the Ontario Hockey League. He collected 116 points (31-85-116) during his OHL career.

On behalf of Chas Sharpe, a case of pucks is being donated to a Cincinnati youth hockey organization by Inglasco, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL.

Since beginning its sponsorship of the Player of the Week award in the 2000-01 season, Inglasco has donated more than 51,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

The Cyclones will be back in action at Heritage Bank Center on Friday when they host the Iowa Heartlanders. Puck drop is set for 7:35 Pm ET. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a Hawaiian Shirt giveaway.
