Josh Morrissey and Mark Scheifele - Team Canada

Morrissey is the obvious choice that has been seen on most experts' projected rosters so far. The Calgary product has asserted himself as one of the league's best blueliners over the past two seasons with the ninth-most goals of any defenceman (22) and the third-most assists (119) for the fourth-most points (145 - tied with New York's Adam Fox).

Morrissey's play has made him a shoe-in for Team Canada's blueline while Scheifele may have his work cut out for him. He has been listed on only a couple of projected rosters for Team Canada and will need to play well heading into the games if he wants a chance.

The 31-year-old Kitchener native has been a point-per-game player for several years now and would've made multiple olympic rosters if the NHL had allowed the NHL to send players in recent years.

He has 430 points in his last 431 games since the start of the 2018-19 season, which is ninth-most for a Canadian-born player. The production has fallen as of late due to injuries but Scheifele is still 11th-best in point-per-game average (0.95) tied with Boston's Brad Marchand.

Kyle Connor and Connor Hellebuyck - Team USA

Two more obvious selections from the Jets' roster will help anchor Team USA and its efforts towards a second-ever Olympic gold in the event and first since 1980.

Connor will help lead the offence alongside stars like Auston Matthews and Jason Robertson. His 112 goals and 234 points in 226 games since the start of the 2021-22 season is the fifth and eighth-most of any American-born player, respectively.

Hellebuyck will be a difference maker for the Americans, as he currently holds the title of the league's best netminder following his second Vezina Trophy win in the last five seasons.

Since the US won its last gold in 1980, Hellebuyck has the highest save percentage (.917) and the third-best goals against average (2.63) of any American-born netminder that has started 500 or more games.

Nikolaj Ehlers - Denmark, Nino Niederreiter - Switzerland

Ehlers will have to see if Denmark will qualify for the Olympics while Niederreiter and Switzerland has already locked up a spot.

The Danish winger is one of the country's four active NHLers and is coming off a strong season, where he finished with the most points (61) in a full 82-game season. Oliver Bjorkstrand and Lars Eller are two other notable Danish players that would be locks to make the Olympic team if Denmark was to qualify.

The Swiss have built a better hockey program in recent years and have produced some of the NHL's best players like Roman Josi, Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and others.

Despite being an older 31 years old, Niederreiter has remained effective. He is coming off a decent 34-point campaign that had him finish sixth out of the nine current Swiss-born NHLers. If he can remain effective into 2026, he will surely make the Olympic roster, but possibly in a more limited role.
