think is a great idea. >> Yeah, I mean, it's really exciting and that there's a big emphasis today at the press conference that this, you know, it's toronto's team in its base in toronto. Toronto is the home base, but they also wanted to be canada's team. They want canadians to be able to have accessible women's basketball as well. And so they want to bring regular season games to vancouver to montreal, who knows maybe more in the future and just give those people in other cities and the chance to watch professional basketball because they don't have that with the men or the women right now. >> Tree suresh, the former raptors executive. The president, how important is at to see a woman in the lead role. >> It's incredible and I mean, theresa has such a great resume and such a great such a great experience running a play sports team. I mean, she was the vice president of the raptors for such a long time. And she even mention today, you know, that experience is going to help her you know, give these players what they need and be able to treat them like the professional athletes that they are. And I think having that nba experience is important because, you know, the nba is one of the top leagues in the world. And so to be able to have that and bring that energy to the women as well, they deserve it just as much. And she will do absolutely, you know, phenomenal not roll into how the women leading this, this movement in this charge in the city is just really great and and so excited to see, you know, what she does for it and the other women that will be brought on the team and just how she leads this incredible. During that we're about to go on. >> And I think it shows that the hunger for the game here, because it's going to be playing at the coca-cola, a reno, which coliseum, which is like old 8,000 people, which is a big stadium. And then there's have games at scotiabank as well. I mean, they feel there's an appetite, don't they? >> Oh, yeah, I mean, last year when the exhibition cancun to toronto, it's sold out scotiabank arena, which is over 19,000 seats in 10 minutes. And then edmonton this year sold out again. And you know, the raptors have always had great throughout the past. They would say like 10 years as they built this big culture around basketball in toronto. And so I think that has just been something we've built over decades building toronto in 2 a basketball city in a city where people want to come out and support these athletes. And so I think, you know, there will be no issue selling out before policy and just the opportunity to be able to play in bigger venues include that they could sell out an even bigger arena. And you're seeing this in the wnba currently that they're selling out, you know, 17,000 seat arena has every night just for regular games. And so that same energy could be brought to toronto. And I know toronto sports fans will be eager to come to buy tickets. Alright chelsea, thank you very much for your insight. Much appreciated. >> Chelsea late is the editor-in-chief of raptors hq. Well, fresh frustration today over the rising cost of groceries in this country. Ndp leader jagmeet singh posting on x photo he says was sent to him of to apples, costing $6, saying calling out the conservatives saying pierre poilievre didn't care to show up to the picket lines win metro workers were on strike last year. Ctv political commentator tom mulcair says grocery prices and affordability are emblematic for millennials and gen z years and are a key reason for conservative support. They're the ones who have completely turned around, gone against the liberals and are now preparing to vote for the conservatives. >> On issues like this. Yes, groceries is the problem. One of the most visible ones, but it's the fact that it's a whole generation. Marcia, that is the first in canadian history that knows they're going to be poor than their parents than that they're going to be poor than their grandparents. They have less of a chance of owning their own home, then their parents and their grandparents. And that's a huge failure in our society. And it's, you know, it's yes, it's been trudeau for 8, 8, and a half years, but it's deeper than that. So I think that the ndp might realize that this a pretty rich vein to be mined there by trying to talk to that generation. And singh has continued his calls for action against canadian grocery ceos and and investigation into a deal between loblaw. >> And telecoms. nearly 3 years after the village of lytton bc was destroyed by wildfire. >> The rebuilding that will allow people to go home is finally underway. But even as houses go up, there are still hurdles slowing things down. Ctv's michele brunoro has more. >> They're the sounds of progress, the sights of hope. It's exciting. I think there's 7 buildings under construction right now. Houses are finally being rebuilt in lytton, including the one belonging to little league great who lost her home in the 2021 wildfire that destroyed most of the community. It just poured the basement slob. >> Last monday and they'll be working on the roof, which is partially. >> In pre belt. She's been living in a small cabin in boston barson shortly after her house burned. We're so grateful to have a roof over our heads, but yeah, it's not ours. We want her home back. But the question remains, why has it taken so long for the village of lytton to begin to rebuild? It's insane. It's absolutely insane that is taken this long. Other communities that have been hit by fire since. >> Are already in their first stages of clean up and rebuild. I really don't know. >> I don't think there's one thing. A review by bc's auditor general announced earlier this month will look at the province's response. Part of the problem was nobody really knew how to deal with the town being wiped off the map because lit was built on an ancient indigenous community. >> Every property needs an archeological assessment. But even after permit approval, o'connor says some owners are facing tens of thousands of dollars in extra costs due to provincial requirements for the owners are required to hire an >> Who in turn hires monitors to be watching as the construction happens, the excavation comes. >> The mayor who just received your own building permits as a community will rebuild piece by piece interior health. They are planning to rebuild the. >> The medical centre back in the prop on the property they own in the village and they're saying 3 to 5 years for that cause for great. I hope that we just can rebuild peaceful. >> And get back to our lives. He hopes to be in her new home by the end of august. Michele brunoro, ctv news button. >> Last month, calgary. Most of alberta for that fact, we're facing drought conditions. But this month, heavy rains have eased those concerns. Ctv's alesia fieldberg reports. >> The plant's love the rain, the garden centres, not so much. The long weekend was about half as busy as we would normally be if it was nice. >> Mid-may to mid-june is when they get 80% of their business. You can't make up for what you lose in may and june in july. It just doesn't happen, but better selection and no crowds. >> Is the silver lining for shoppers, despite the moisture. It's good for us, we need it. >> But it could staff and let us plan to precipitation is delivering a much different story than one month ago. >> In april, the city ask calgarians to conserve water, concerned the dry winter could require city water restrictions as early as may. We've seen measurable precipitation and 16 of those 22 days so far this month. >> Which is astounding, really when you consider how dry it was earlier in the year. >> It's helping to move us in a good direction. High soil moisture is good news for dry land farmers. It's it's up to 150% of normal from calgary's south into a. >> Into southern alberta and river water used for cities and irrigation has improved as well since the mountains of beginning precipitation taking concerning los snowpack levels up to about average. And it looks we will be a a out of the severe hydrological drought that we had as that snow in the mountain starts to melt to. The city is now monitoring for floodinen river levels rise, some city pathways typically close. But there is currently no heightened risk for flooding in calgary. But snowmelt alone doesn't drive river flooding. So what we're really watching for are the big rain systems. >> And those can be challenging to predict in advance. In 2013, the city was facing drought conditions before a three-day rain storm led to flooding from may. 15th to july. 15th is the time we can get those really big rains. And so that's why the city is on high alert during that season. Alesia fieldberg, ctv news, calgary. >> A plan to modernize one manitoba community's water system has been flushed. Many people in niverville rely on well water. So they rejected a proposal to install new water mains. Ctv's jeff keele has more on why some owner homeowners felt, but they were being soaked for thousands of dollars. >> Trevor lori says there is nothing wrong with the water he gets from as well, which flows into his niverville home while one, it's free. >> The >> I have a lot of filters on there, so you can't even tell that its well water, it's it taste fine. Now he and other homeowners are sending a plan to switch to town water down the drain. I've talked to a few the neighbours and I was like. >> What do you guys think it

would like forget it. I don't think that all of that should be on the homeowner. >> 3 million dollar grant from the province would cover half the price to put water mains in the older area of niverville where people rely on well, water now the town says the rest of the costs would be on those homeowners between 500 and $12,000 over 10 years, depending on lot sizes. And if those residents want to then hook up to the water main, another bill ranging from 3500 to $25,000. The town says the average property cost for both is around $19,000. Plus, there would be a quarterly water bill reasoning behind it. I'm not too sure. >> The reason why. I think it's more about a cash grab that offer that. >> Came through. It's just. Highly expensive because of the price tag. The survey was done and of the 700 impacted homeowners half responded and nearly 80% of them said no. So the town council is not moving ahead with the water mains. Sta. >> Proper thing to do and so it it was a the strenuous process to come to come up and saying we're not going to do this project at this time. But the town says there are benefits to installing and connecting to a water main. >> Safe drinking water, improve quality and the addition of fire hydrants in this neighbourhood has actually a real benefit when it comes to firefighting in this community. And there is that 3 million dollars from the province that won't be there forever. >> The town has it until 2026, if it wants to dive into this again. Jeff keele, ctv news, niverville. >> In a world first on ontario children's hospital is turning to artificial intelligence to help identify children with rare genetic disorders that are often undiagnosed. It's giving new hope to many parents searching for answers, including george with son was one of the cases. The algorithm identified. >> Anthony is actually the first one they noticed with this disease and north america and all that takes to heal. And now we can actually. For the rest your questions and know exactly what anthony have. >> Researchers at cheo, the children's hospital of eastern ontario have developed the world's first algorithm powered by ai to identify children with previously undiagnosed rare genetic disorders. The pilot I was used to scour nearly 26,000 patient records over the past decade. The analysis revealed 15 children and youth who had likely undiagnosed cases. Let's bring in doctor kym boycott, a senior scientist at the cheo research institute. Doctor, thanks very much for joining us today. Well, thanks for having much and congratulations, this this is amazing news by the sounds of it. >> Well, thinks we're pretty proud of that. It's something that we've heard from the rare disease community for the 20 years. Really about their long diagnostic odyssey. And how is it that they can come to an accurate diagnosis much faster. Often it can take 7 to 10 years, sometimes longer. And is there a way that we do this it in a much more efficient fashion. >> So how does this work? It's nice to see ai being used for good, not evil. So how does it work? >> Yeah, exactly. It's fantastic, actually. So what it does basically is every every day are at the electronic health record moves data from the from cheo into the where into the data warehouse and the alberta runs every night. And basically searches for patients who have multiple diagnostic codes that indicate complex disease and have seen multiple or 3 or more departments at cheo. And those are the kids that they're sliding. >> And what does that mean then for those kids? >> What it means is that we've been flagging the system to the health care frontline team that this child may have an undiagnosed rare genetic disease. And then that child can be referred to genetics have the appropriate to genetic testing. And like anthony to get an accurate diagnosis that helps them become more visible in the healthcare system as well as the educational and community systems that can really improve their quality of life. >> Now with a not be doing some of that testing from the some of the genetic oh, absolutely. >> Most kids I mean, are like cheers in an excellent organization. Most kids who have a suspected to originate disease, they make it to us. We're looking for the ones that got missed along the way. That was the sort of retrospective study that crunch to 260,000 patient records to find sort of 50 that going forward. What it's going to do is do prospectively. So instead of seeing them 5 to 7 years into their diagnostic journey will see them at the, their very first or second interaction too. >> And it's pretty incredible because I mention the combination of genes and what could be the problem must be
