and fans. Those include ticketing fees, service fees, convenience fees, platinum fees, price master fees per order fees, handling fees and payment processing fees. >> Among others. For fans in the united states, this illegal conduct means higher prices. In other countries where venues are not bound by ticketmaster's exclusive ticketing contracts. Venues often use multiple ticketing companies for the same event. And fancy lower fees and more innovative ticketing products. As a result. We also allege that live nation ticketmaster uses these long-term ticketing agreements with venues and its control over those venues to unlawfully pressure artists into agreeing to use its promotion services. In fact, live nation often sacrifices profits it could earn as a venue owner by letting its venue sit empty rather than opening them to artists who do not use live nation promotion services, even during peak concert season. Live nation has not only deployed and my competitive tactics to course artists and venues and using its services and a charge fans. Excessive fees. It has also work strategically and illegally. To eliminate the threat of potential rivals from emerging across any of its businesses. As detailed in our complaint live nation suffocates its competition using a variety of tactics from acquisitions of smaller regional promoters and venues to threats and retaliation. 2 agreements with rivals designed to neutralize sam. This has included acquiring are co-opting key independent promoters. Even when the economics of a particular deal did not make sense for live nation's promotions. Business. For example, as recounted in our complaint live nation acquired a controlling stake in ac entertainment. An independent promoter in tennessee. Live nation's chief strategy officer assured executives that even though, quote, the numbers are not super exciting. And this feels like more of a defensive move. The acquisition helped quote, grow our moat in the nashville market. When faced with another potential competitor to its promotions. Business live nation took action to ensure that the competitor would not threaten its dominance in the live music industry. Live nation initially categorize that competitor. The venue operator oak view group as one of its quote, biggest competitor threats. Over time. Pugh and live nation morphed from competitors into partners as detailed in our complaint live nation executives repeatedly scolded hope you for trying to compete. In one instance in 2016 live nation ceo warned oakview that competition would only lead to artists demanding more compensation. The live nation ceo emailed oakview writing, quote, let's make sure we don't let them now start playing us off. Referring to a prominent artist agency. Oakview back down. In a similar instance in 2022 live nation ceo scolded oakview ceo quote, who would be so stupid to do this and play into the artist agents arms close quote. Hope you again back down. We have never promoted with out you won't, said its ceo and later added, quote, I never want to be competitors close. Quote. We also alleged that live nation has repeatedly wield its powers to keep its rivals from expanding in the U.S. concert promotions market through threats and retaliation. In 2021 live nation threatened to retaliate against private equity firm silver lake unless unless one of the latter's portfolio companies tag stopped competing with live nation for artists promotion contracts in the united states. Live nation ceo told silverlake that he quote, fail to understand weiss overlay, quote, continue to invest in a business that competes with live nation close quote. The threats ultimately succeeded and silver lake has tried to sell tag altogether. We allege that live nation does not maintain its cut dominance in the live entertainment industry by staying ahead of its competition on the merits. It does so by unlawfully eliminating its competition. We allege that live nation

controls the live entertainment industry in the united states because is breaking the law. I am grateful to the justice department's antitrust division for their excellent work on this case. The live entertainment industry is complex and well sourced. Taking on this case has required persistence and diligence by the antitrust lawyers who are behind me today and by their team. I am proud to work with them. People always remember the first time that they were transformed by live music. I still remember as a senior in college going to a bonnie raitt concert and seeing of an up and coming musicians named bruce springsteen play as a warm-up act. We all know. We had just seen the future of rock and roll. The justice department filed this lawsuit on behalf of fans who should be able to go to concerts without a monopoly standing in their way. We have filed this lawsuit on behalf of artists who should be able to plan their tours around their fans and not be dictated by an unlawful monopolists. We have filed this lawsuit on behalf of the independent promoters and venues, which should be able to compete on a level playing field. And we have filed this lawsuit on behalf of the american people. It is time for fans and artists to stop paying the price for live nation's monopoly is time to restore competition and innovation in the entertainment industry. It is time to break up live nation. Ticketmaster. The american people are ready for it. And I'll turn this over to the deputy attorney general. >> Good morning, everyone. And thank you. Mister attorney general. Today's announcement reflects the latest efforts by the department of justice to combat corporate misconduct since day one of this administration, we have prioritized holding the most serious corporate wrongdoers accountable from bribe payers, money launderers to price fixers. Our fight against corporate wrongdoing includes an intense focus on anti-competitive conduct, which disadvantages consumers, workers and businesses of all kinds. As the attorney general detailed today's announcement alleges that live nation and its subsidiary, ticketmaster have engaged in anti-competitive conduct to cement their dominance of the live concert market. It lays out how live nation ticketmaster acts as the gatekeeper. All right, we are just listening to an announcement out of washington at the department of justice merrick garland announcing today. >> The doj wants to break up live nation. The company that owns ticketmaster accusing it of having a monopoly in the live entertainment industry and accusing the company of violating anti-trust laws. Garland saying that fans and artists pay the price for this monopoly and they say it's time it was broken up. It will monitor this as we move on to some other news in texas, a tornado ripped through the city of temple north of austin, causing widespread damage. >> With a major medical breakthrough to tell you about this morning. A sort of ontario for the first time, researchers are using artificial intelligence ai to help identify rare genetic disorders in children. With more, I want to bring in ctv's renee rodgers. Renee, good morning. Tell us about the around this research and the patients. It's helped. >> Hi, yes. Marcia, good well, this is being what is believed to be a world first. And essentially, as you say, researchers at the children's hospital of eastern ontario or are harnessing the power of 8. Diagnose children and youth with a rare disorders that they may have not been diagnosed with before this technology. So what is essentially is researchers have developed an algorithm that they call think rare and this algorithm basically goes through all of the electronic health records at the hospital. There are hundreds of thousands of them at flags shield run who could potentially have an undiagnosed rare genetic disease. That child is then referred for genetic testing. Now one of these children is a little boy's 10 years old. His name is anthony with staff. He was flagged and then subsequently diagnosed after genetic testing with something called chong jansen syndrome. This is a game changer. His parents say he had been in and out of hospital his whole life. That includes 100 outpatient appointments and 30 visits to the er for various reasons. They did not have a clear diagnosis. They now do. And his father says it's been a game changer. Take a listen. >> We were able to actually a system with even more help because this research brought a report. And this report is brought to the school word school was able to get more funding to help her son. Fully established itself as a full student with all the knowledge of north technology, he's able to have. >> So I'm marcia, as you heard, there really has opened up a lot of opportunities to get their child, the help they need with this new diagnosis. So what could this mean for the future of diagnosing patients? Renee? It's very exciting. That hospital says so while it says it won't replace doctors, what it will do is hopefully make these diagnoses more early for children, so that they're able to get on a path of medical care to help that child rather than the ping pong around medical system, just like anthony was. And apparently a lot of children are who are undiagnosed. This is also very interesting to marcia because it's in ottawa right now. But this hospital says they have no plans on monetizing a plan to give the technology to anyone who wants it at the hospital that wants it for free. So you could very well be seeing that side much more widespread across canada and even around the world. Rene, thank you. Changes are coming to quebec's health care system today and has some family doctors concerned. >> The province is overhauling the way doctors get patients, forcing them to use an online portal. But some physicians say it's flawed and it doesn't solve the fundamental problem of access. Ctv's denise roberts reports. >> As of may, 23rd any quebec are needing a family doctor will have to be registered on this website. It's called the quebec family doctor finder or dance. And it will be the primary way doctors take on patients, which concerns doctor annie gauthier, who has had problems with the system. >> One in 2 of the patients that against gave me. Did not need a family doctor because they already had a family doctor. They were dead or they no longer lived in quebec and therefore did not need a family doctor. The problem she says is the list is not updated, creating an enormous amount of unnecessary work. >> The problem is it one in 2 people who letters are sent to. Don't need a family doctor. That's such a waste of time and energy on the part of the gent on the part of the doctor and part of the clinic try to contact these people. The ministry of health told ctv news that each regional health board or see use. >> Has employees dedicated to continuously updating these lists. But it adds that it's also up to people on that list to make sure their information is up-to-date. >> It was crazy because I got contacted after it already been set up with a doctor and I actually got paired with a doctor here and I was like, well, I've been followed for a few months already like I don't need this. La, you works as a medical receptionist and says there's a need for a better system. We get a lot of the blame for for it. One really like we're having the same issues. He's like the as the

patients were serving a safe to continue to pay. If you want to have 30 need to send us this of one and grade because you won't be able to feel there's but doctor guillaume charbonneau of the quebec federation of general practitioner says with a shortfall of 1500 family doctors and a coming wave of retirements. This isn't the time to put more administrative burden on doctors we had to make to system asked for it as we can. And bay. >> But you know, new rules, it would good intention for treaty would create new problems, problems that may cost primary care providers. >> And potential patients. Denise roberts, ctv news. >> We're getting a live update right now out of edmonton on the wildfire situation across the province of alberta. Let's now must reinforce containment lines and extinguish hot spots. It was because of the combined efforts of the incident management team, staff contractors and the municipality that we were able to announce a change in status on that wildfire this weekend. Elsewhere in the province, we have 33 new starts detected between friday and monday. Most of those we're determined to be caused by people recreating outdoors. But our staff also had hundreds of positive interactions with albertans who are out and about over the weekend, our patrols visited popular recreation areas and random camping sites to share wildfire information and answer questions. I'd like to thank the many people who took care to follow the fire restrictions and bans in place to help us reduce human caused wildfires this weekend. As the weather warms up, we will respond if we see the wildfire danger rising again. And you can always find the latest information. Alberta fire bans dot ca. Thank you. >> But christie with that will go to questions. I believe there's no one on the line, but we'll, we'll keep monitoring the line. So for now, we'll start in the room, but just other western centre. So mister liu said that 77% of so for this reason season are. >> And made to believe any of we're going to tell us we're not. >> All fires in alberta are investigated and so we haven't had in the reports back on on the the >> You know how how we fire started and we're at exactly without do we know that there can always be that opportunity that people will start fires intentionally. But by and large, the majority, the wildfires that have been identified so far have been either I've been human caused and either by accident or by negligence. >> Pertains to the periphery water isolation. So he was left at a at many people on social media and in the media in general, we're saying if you actually went smoother compared to 2016 1, what steps did you take to ensure that the evacuation smoother than 2016. Now the evacuation, of course, that happens under your mate. And some I might have stephen kind of take that question. >> But I know there's been a lot you know, we did learn a lot last year from the number of okay as we monitor this wildfire update. We want to take you to louisville, kentucky. We're hearing from the mayor there and police after a professional golfer scottie scheffler was arrested last week during a pga championship tournament. Let's listen to the update and tense. >> Conditions. Transparency is incredibly important. To our administration. To lmpd to our community. Given the importance of transparency, we releasing some information and some video today as we committed to. >> Following the tragic events and series of events that happened thereafter. To restate what we've already said. We are not aware at this time of any video footage. Which captures the initial interaction between lmpd. And mister schaeffer. We're releasing today video footage. At the time of mister scheffler's arrest. From 2 video cameras. One of those video cameras is 8 fixed poll camera. It was from the other side of shelbyville road. And the other camera.
