made for the real you. ( ) >> I had never been so inspired by an active as the action of >> Defiance from pro-palestinian protesters outside the university of toronto. They're refusing to abide by a trespass order. And now the school is seeking a court injunction. >> Say this could go and do some magic act. It was a disgusting attempt to intimidate the community to feel people with fear. >> Leaders and community members gather for a solidarity rally at a jewish girls school that was shot at in toronto over the weekend. >> And israel's top military official says that country is examining a strike on rafah that killed dozens of palestinians. >> Hello, I'm marcia macmillan. Thank you for joining us. A live look at toronto to begin this hour. Were pro-palestinian protesters camped out at the university of toronto for weeks are now holding a rally. >> They're defying a trespass order issued by the school. The university said that the protesters must clear the site by 8:00am. That was 2 hours ago. The u of t is taking legal action now to get the students to leave, saying lawyers representing the u of t served documents seeking an injunction order. They have asked the court for an expedited case conference for scheduling. >> We are only here right now because you have taken this going to the heart. And because you know, better then many who claimed to have more don't you o what integrity is? >> Protest organizers say they plan to hold their ground in hopes of forcing the school to meet their demands. The 2 sides met yesterday and protesters presented what they described as a counter offer. They're calling on the university to disclose public investments in companies profiting from israel's military offensive in gaza. Ctv's christina tenaglia joins me now with more. So what's the latest this morning on the action that the school is taking to break down this encampment? Christina is so there's seeking. Well, what they can marcia, they're using the legal avenues to. >> To essentially get this encampment to so we know that the group, the palestinians circle. >> At the university of toronto, this is a passionate group who've been very clear that they feel a strongly about what is going on in their community and the greater community in gaza they are not satisfied with the offer from the university toronto's president, which was put out last thursday to give you a of the timeline on may. 2nd is when the encampment formally seeing it there. Live us. Are you seeing there's video when the encampment came to dozens and dozens of tents along the property of the university of toronto. Since then, it was on thursday that the university of toronto's president presented a pretty detailed offer to the they were not satisfied and they have since presented I counter which they've made available publicly. The 2 sites have continued to meet over the weekend in terms of what exactly happened. A spokesperson for the university of toronto says look, and this is quite consistent with with other. It's sort of a communications. He says we're not negotiating in the media. And we see that at times, whether it labour unions and organizations and other kinds of disputes. Sometimes the conversations are private in less, one side chooses to release some sort of information in this case of the university of toronto is saying today and this is consistent with other universities across north america that they're seeking an injunction essentially legally, this means to the protesters that the university of toronto is going to court and say you need to cease and desist. You've had your time to have your say to exercise your constitutional rights. And now you've got to leave. You got to vacate the premises there's a deadline for 8 this morning for the protesters to leave. And as we've been showing you throughout the morning, they're still there. There are rallies taking place this morning. They're supported by a number of labour unions, including cupe, ontario, the ontario federation of labour who have gone together. And you see a number of speakers there speaking at the microphone as for this injunctions seemed to to move forward legally quite quickly, but quickly still means a few days. So a spokesperson for the university of toronto does not expect any any type of movement today when it comes to the injunction.

so I think at this point, marcia, its going to be status quo at the university of toronto with protesters saying, look, we're here to have our say to exercise our constitutional right. And we presented a counteroffer to the university because what the president offered us last thursday. We're not satisfied with the protesters to christina just dig in their heels. They're not going to go anywhere. >> Yeah, for now. At the moment legally, they're not being forced to go anywhere. So which is why the university of toronto is seeking this injunction >> A look it, I both sides recognize that the challenges involved here, the protesters. >> Have a number of demands aside from those demands at the requesting for the university of toronto, they want to exercise their constitutional rights. But as we've with a variety of protests across the country over the years on on a variety of topics. There gets to a point whether it is a private institution or jurisdiction or municipality or government says, look, you've had your say, we need to return. This premise is to the community and we need you, we need you to go. The protesters don't seem to think they need to go out and constitutionally and again, I'm not a constitutional lawyer, but what they're saying is we are here to exercise our rights. We have we feel strongly about this. And as of now, we've presented u the university of toronto with a counteroffer. And again, we understand that that conversations continue, but there hasn't been progress. Marcia cristina police keep us posted on any developments. Thank you for that. Meantime, dozens gathered this morning. >> For a solidarity rally held at a jewish school in toronto that was shot at over the weekend. >> The stand-up against of all rise of anti-semitism that we see too often afflicting the jewish people. We're here with a message asking canadians to stand up shoulder to shoulder with the jewish community in defence of democracy, civility, human rights and the rule of law. >> It happened at base elementary in north york, early saturday. Police found evidence of gunfire, including a bullet hole in the building. No injuries were reported. Toronto police now increasing their presence in certain neighbourhoods. Israeli and eu foreign ministers are exchanging angry words today over israel's attacks on rafah. Israel's foreign minister is accusing spain are rewarding terror by recognizing a palestinian state. Meantime, the eu's foreign police chief is lending support to the international criminal court, which seeks an arrest warrant for israel's prime minister, benjamin netanyahu. And others. Israel's top military official says the country is examining a strike on rafah that local health officials say killed as many as 45 palestinians. And sent 10's a tense. >> Ablaze israel claims it hit a hamas installation and killed 2 senior hamas militants. The country also says it's launched 70 criminal investigations in 2 other international law violations that may have been committed to. Meantime, we're getting a better look at the aftermath of israel's airstrikes on that camp in rafah, in the light of day, charred cars and tense reduced ashes. All that's left the attack came 2 days after the international court of justice ordered israel to end its military offensive in rafah. Tens of thousands of people remain ctv's colton praill joins us now from ottawa with more. Colton, what has been the international reaction to these latest strikes and rafah and as well by the hamas by hamas firing rockets into tel aviv this weekend. >> Mercy mission to the back and forth between spain in israel, but it's not limited. Just to number of countries who are typically seen as allies towards israel have spoken out against this french president emmanuel macro saying he was outraged by this attack, urging israel to follow the icj ordered to halt their operations in rafah. We've also seen countries like egypt speaking out against this turkiye, saying they'll do everything in their power to hold israel accountable for this strike in its defence. Israel says the attacks that we saw this weekend, rockets fired for the first time in nearly 4 months into tel aviv. Make it clear that they need to continue this assault. And it is still imperative that they operate in rafah. They say that's where the missiles were fired from the sea. That's where the last bastion of hamas fighters is concentrated and even the sport in this strike itself on the, on the encampment. You mentions that israel claims that they have killed a 2 senior hamas commanders in that attack. One thing that's important to note in all of this discussion right now. Part of the reason we're seeing so much backlash from the international community on this isn't just the number of civilians that were killed in this, but it's also discussions around whether

or not this was a humanitarian. There was of a number of discussions happening about whether this was a protected area. The palestinian red crescent said it was a place for displaced people to gather israel coming out today saying it was not a part about this war. Ah, that's the humanitarian camp that they set up for civilians in rafah to go to the sea was just outside of that. This strike was precise and use persisting the dish munitions. Of course, though, as you mentioned, they are still investigating the strike as a result of the fires that you can see burning on your screen now and the civilian casualties that came out from all of this one other thing to highlight in that international backlash as we've seen a number of of countries criticized israel for this continued offensive, but also highlight the fact that what hamas is doing also flies in the face of international and the international laws around warfare calling for a solution calling for progress towards peace talks. It's part of the reason we've seen countries like spain like ireland and norway, excuse me, I'm pushing towards recognizing the palestinian state to try to push peace talks forward rather than waiting for progress to come in. Recognizing us to the end of this process. There is more international pressure on finding some sort of middle ground that we don't this rising death toll. Of course, negotiations supposed to happen tomorrow, but that still a little in the air this point. All right, so as far as you can report them, the cease-fire talks are set to go ahead on tuesday. Colton. >> Egyptian officials say they are qatari officials say they're concerned. >> About what this most recent striking ruffo will mean for those negotiations and whether it could hinder there's been a number of and now says pieces talking about the strikes that we saw from hamas's point of view as a potential power play leading up to these negotiations that they could be trying to reassert some sort of strength before they head to the table. However, it's important to note that hamas officials also reportedly told reuters just days ago there was no date set for these negotiations. And that was on sunday, just prior to the negotiations coming up and tuesday. So while they have not been fruitful in the past, it seems even less certain that we're moving towards a fruitful progress with these negotiations that are supposed to happen in cairo tomorrow. And as far as we know, are scheduled to happen. Colton praill for us in ottawa, colton, thanks so much. >> More than 2 weeks after they were by wildfires. People heading back are being told to gas up first and bring a few days worth of food and supplies. The parker lake wildfire is still burning out of control and people in fort nelson are being warned to be ready to leave at a moment's notice. Police in ontario have shared the results of a major auto theft investigation that began back in october. Peel. Police say this was a highly orchestrated criminal operation responsible for the theft and transport of stolen vehicles. It as a result, 16 arrests have been made 322 charges were laid 369 stolen vehicles were recovered of a value of 33 million dollars. >> We hear our community.
