hamas and this is where became extraordinarily a controversial, including the prime minister netanyahu of israel and the defence minister, also a warrant for their arrest front by the icc. Israel's not a signatory to the icc. Neither is the united states. You saw conservatives in canada saying this is an outrageous false equivalency between a terrorist organization and the democratically elected government. Whether you agree with them or not, you've got the ndp saint canada should do more to support both the icc in the icj and the liberals kind of saying we're not going to comment yet on the international criminal court, because it will take months to figure that out. And it's a hypothetical. So they're stuck in the middle on this, but in extraordinarily controversial equivalency between the leaders of israel and the leaders of a terrorist organization. So israel feels very backed in a corner and will ignore both of these. >> I want to ask you as but whats going on in the U.K. says really fascinating a situation where the conservatives evan have been in power for 14 years there. 5 different prime ministers, including like 3 in the last 2 years. A lot of chaos, economic problems and you have rishi sunak, the current prime minister comes out of 10 downing street for the optics were not good pouring rain. He gets totally drenched as he announces he's going to be a snap election there. Like 20 points behind the polls, though, against the labour party, any chance that they can actually pull this off. What is going on with the british. >> Well, well, todd. You and I and all our viewers spent a lot of time watching politics, folks and if you had a highlight reel of the worst campaign launches the that the prevalent to have means that will mock you. I knew then the rishi sunak's rain. So it launch would be 1, 2, or 3. Now all campaigns have bad moments. We can talk about this, though, was a hold my beer. We could do worse moment. Rishi sunak comes out number 10, she it is pouring rain on him. So east getting drenched as he's trying to talk about it. Like soaking wet, then somebody is playing a labour party, someone that's and protesters are yelling. She can barely hear the guy then as if that wasn't bad enough and the means of immediately started getting wetter all the time, you know, like it's, he was just blocker 8 of the shambolic and a horrific launch of guys. 20 profits back in the polls, but then of course, even today, he was he was trying to campaign launch at the shipyard where the titanic was built and are like is this a sinking ship? You're at it. Why would you pick this location? His staff just picked a picture of him on a plane with the side exit over his head. It's like someone trying to sabotage rishi sunak. They don't need to at least 20 points behind. He's got very little shot like a 3rd of the conservative mp's don't want to run again. The question is todd, why why do it? Well, it probably is never going to get better for issue, not inflation dropped their to about 2.3%, which is close to that 2% target. And and so you think's it's not going to get worse. I better do it now. But he surprised his own party and he really has the proverbial snowball's chance. But in his chance, maybe a rain drops chance in the desert to survive this think. But if you're justin trudeau, you're looking at it. You're like okay, here's a guy. 20 points back in the pools. Justin trudeau's been there. I mean, is between 16 and 20 points back depending on the poll. And the question is, can. Better economic news like lowering inflation to target, which is happening in the U.K. and britain, but also happening here in canada. Will that be enough? Good economic news to change the narrative. And I wrote about this in g 0 and he's watching see of rishi sunak. Now the comparison is not great. They've been 14 years in government had 5 the leaders in the u.k., justin trudeau's been 9 years. And one leader, but can it change? The change will with good economic news. And so he's watching really, really closely. And the answer for rishi sunak right now looks like no, unless something dramatically changes before july 4th. Justin trudeau's got to be looking at this and thinking to himself, first of all, I can do a better campaign launched and that that should have an umbrella. But can I get over what people call vibe flation the fact that even though the facts makes show that it's getting better, people feel the vibes are bad. People feel that the economy is weak and bad. And can good news kinda change the trajectory of the campaign. We'll see what happens in britain, I don't think rishi sunak, I mean, people got. I don't remember this member, the head of lettuce. Remember he, su mistrusted notched who is the

shortest serving prime minister? I think maybe in history and there's like a a head of lettuce and and her head and the newspaper it ever does like, which will last longer. And I think the lattice want. I think we should. Sunak's got a lettuce right next to right now. Wow. Hey, always good to see you, my friend. Happy friday. Thanks for this. And no rain here knowing it, it's because we know how to do these launches, take care. We'll talk soon. Evan solomon, ctv news. Political contributor. And g 0 media publisher joining us from new york. >> All right, we're tracking some breaking news. This is just coming in here. The truck driver who caused that tragic bus crash involving the humboldt broncos hockey team. He has been ordered deported to the decision coming in that the immigration and refugee board hearing. A lawyer who represented the man jaskirat singh sidhu saying the decision was a foregone conclusion and that all that was required to deport sidhu was proof that he is not a canadian citizen and that he committed a serious crime. City was the one who was driving the 18 wheeler that smashed into the humboldt broncos. Bus sidhu is from india and he had been sentenced to 8 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to to what happened back in 2019 16. Few moments ago, we heard from students and demonstrators and they're not exactly saying that. >> They reject this offer or proving this offer. They say they are still reviewing it and haven't decided whether they'll pack up and leave just yet. But they did say, however, that the offer from the university is not meeting their demands and said that's not good enough. Yesterday, the university gave demonstrators 24 hours to respond to its offer to end this encampment, which has been set up since may. Second, that includes forming a working group to consider options for the disclosure of the school's investments. It, the university said it won't and any partnerships with israeli schools, which is one of the demands of this offer is conditional on the encampment being cleared and not set up elsewhere on campus at the university warning it's prepared to start issuing trespass notices. Students say they are still reviewing this offer. Here is more. >> This document. Is a farce. This document is nothing but a summary of their already existing procedure on divestment disclosure with a few minor tweaks to bait us into thinking that we're getting a good deal out of this. They're really in this current moment. It is up to the administration, whether they are willing to be serious to engage in a genuine conversation about commitments towards divestment or if they're going to continue to give you know, big committees that ultimately lead us nowhere. >> Our offer is fair, henry simple. Our approach is in keeping with the university's fundamental commitments to free expression. Peaceful protests and the diversity of opinions that exist in our community. Now both sides say this offer has been on the table since we started meeting. But demonstrators say this is the first time. >> They have that in writing again. They say they are continuing to review this office from the university. However, the university says it's prepared to start issuing those trespass notices after 4:00pm this afternoon. We also asked toronto police have they been notified about clearing this encampment face tell us they've been in contact with the university, but their assistance hasn't been requested by mike walker. >> All right, mike walker there. Many soccer fans in british columbia reeling after the news at the star player will not be making a trip to vancouver this weekend. After all, reaction is pouring in after fans shelled out hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Here's more from ctv's isabella zavarise. It. >> He's one of the most celebrated figures in the sport. Lionel messi, the argentine football player has legions of fans across the globe, including here in the lower mainland fans like shea rogers, who grew up watching messi collecting his jerseys

and even framing it ticket from the last match. She watched him play. I have followed him all through my youth >> I follow him to this day. So yeah, it was I had to go to the game is not a question. And so I think it's a wonderful culmination. >> But messi will not be suiting up. He won't even be travelling here along with fellow former fc barcelona stars luis suarez and sergio bruce katz. According to the whitecaps, a blow to fans like rogers, who paid top dollar for tickets. They tripled them in price and that he doesn't even show up. So super super disappointing. Andrew wilson had plans to travel from the island to see the game with his family calling the opportunity of a bucket list item. They're not even making the trip and it wasn't just messy. It was suarez and boost gets I also want to see. >> That just felt disrespectful and really just really upsetting as is just as a sports fan in bc. In a statement, the whitecaps a unfortunately, we have no control over who place for our opponent. And it was important for us to communicate to our fans as soon as possible. But some fans think they hold some responsibility. So the way that they marketed, it was messi's coming to vancouver. Don't miss out greatest player in the world. If your marketing it that way, you should be 100% certainty is coming. And any other action. And government. >> A major ruling today from the world court. The international court of justice orders israel to stop its military campaign and the city of rafah that's in southern gaza it increases pressure on israel, but it's largely symbolic because it is not enforceable. >> It is up to the administration, whether they are willing to be serious to engage in a genuine conversation about commitments towards died last minute. >> And t -3 hours. It's time for them to go. You're watching ctv news channel. I'm todd van der heyden. It's good to have you with us from across the country on this friday. We are tracking some breaking news. The truck driver responsible for the humboldt broncos bus crash. >> A tragedy from 6 years ago, he has been ordered deported back to india. The decision coming in at the immigration and refugee board hearing. Not a big surprise given what happened and the fact that jaskirat singh sidhu is a citizen of india, not canada. In fact, his lawyer said the decision was basically a foregone conclusion. All it required for him to be deported was proof that he's not canadian and that he committed a serious crime. Originally from india, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison after he pleaded guilty back in 2019 16. People were killed onboard that bus and 13 others were injured. The humboldt broncos hockey team was on the way to a game that happened back in 2018 last year, judge rejected city's request remain in canada with his wife. So again, 6 years after that crash, sidhu finally being deported back to india. We're following a major ruling from the international court of justice today. It's the top court of the united nations. It has ordered israel to stop its military operation in rafah. That's a key city in southern gaza. Certainly adds more pressure on israel, even though the court itself really has no means to actually enforce the order. >> Is that must immediately halt its money through a fence. And any other action. And government. Which may conflict on the palestinian group in gaza. Conditions are flying. That could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part. >> The president of the court saying the humanitarian situation in gaza is catastrophic. It also ordered israel to open the rafah border crossing to allow more humanitarian aid medical supplies into the territory. This order is the 3rd time the world court has issued orders trying to stop the death toll. The va humanitarian suffering in gaza. Israel has repeatedly insisted it has the right to defend itself from hamas and will not comply with today's ruling. Fact. Israel us often said the united nations and that court in particular are anti israeli. Let's bring in now ali. He is with the international development and relief foundation. A canadian based charity does a lot of great humanitarian work double. Thanks for taking the time for ctv today, much appreciated. Thank you. Thanks for having taught your reaction. First of all, to the court's ruling. Well, welcome it, right. I think this is the ruling we we've been waiting for, we've needed. There's been real lives in the but I think it's upholding this room. That's important. >> I think on a day like today, there's a little bit more momentum when it comes to really like this, when the security council, there's also just passed a earlier this afternoon as well too to ensure that, you know, you medicaid workers are protected. So ruling like that's important. There's millions of people in 800,000 people are fleeing. I've been told to move out of rough and large-scale humanitarian organizations are doing as much work as they possibly can, but have had to put all of that on pause as this invasion began. And ruf, un ruf really like this is important. I think it gives the security council some momentum to ensure that they stepped up and they passed a resolution. But I think it's upholding this and actually see, that's important, right? Israel will not comply. You already know that and in fact, are condemning this. So although it is symbolic and does increase pressure on israel, arguably, what difference is it actually going to make novel? What do you think? >> Well, that's the worry that we have rated sits now with the security council passes
