The university of toronto protesters have until later this afternoon to clear their encampment. The university issued a 24 hour deadline on thursday afternoon, calling for students to consider its offer. Ctv's kamil karamali is standing by for us with more on this calm all good morning. What is the university of toronto offering it to the students who are protesting a good morning, renee. So the clock is ticking for the students who have set up this encampment of the at u of t since early may. Now what the university of toronto has. >> Said in a press conference yesterday that it will not cut ties with israeli universities, but it is willing to form a group that consider options for disclosing and showing more transparency of its investments. The ultimatum proposed by the university yesterday, as you mentioned. >> Which students have 24 hours to consider. The clock is ticking. This would be the deadline would later this afternoon. Now the university president said the encampment at u of t must end saying if it doesn't, they will issue a notice of trespass and pursue any legal steps necessary. He added as a result, if the encampment comes down, students will also have the opportunity to present their demands on divestment during a meeting on june I believe we have a little bit of a clip let's throw to that right now. >> Given the duration of the encampment and the growing strain on our community. It's time to bring this encampment to an end. >> And he also said once those demands are delivered, the

university will review the divestment request to run a. You also said that that they would form an advisory committee on divestment end in that students can recommend who is part of that. I advisory committee, but it's also worth noting that said there isn't any firm guarantees in what the university is proposing, saying that it will consider steps you know, having this advisory committee and disclosing more on its divestments. >> Do we know at this point calm how students are reacting? Yeah, we have heard from students you know, they are not happy with that. The circumstances in these negotiations. >> Or this what they call an ultimatum has come to light, saying that it wasn't done in a fair fashion said they were chanting we won't rest until u of t divest saying they came to negotiate in good faith. But the university quote, cause consistently abused our trust. >> They're also saying they're upset at the universities, offer it came under the threat of a trust passed notice. So obviously not really happy at this moment the negotiations and sort of demand proposed by the u of t but that doesn't change much on there. And they still only until later this afternoon. 2 responded to it what they're saying is an ultimatum proposed by eu the u of t. >> And what happens next after this come all ye. Once again, we do know later this afternoon with the that deadline is in place. What else we should be looking forward to is that june there's a committee meeting happening. >> That sir is taking place at the u of t and that's the university of toronto is saying we could have some of the students present and to, you know, really put forward their demands as well. So they're saying, look, you can be part of these meetings, you can talk about divestment any of other demands that you have for you know, board and university and they're saying the circle. June 19th on your calendars because you know, this is when you really get to have a say once again, renee, all of this contingent on the encampment coming down. >> Alright, ctv's kamil karamali reporting. Thanks for this car lock. Toronto city council is trying to find ways to speed up construction on a busy highway in the downtown core. But the extreme gridlock as cars heated debate ctv's natalie johnson has the details. >> We know that it is crumbling, we know that it is 60 years old. The consensus in council thursday night. Was that more needed to be done about the gridlock on the gardiner? We are at a particular flashpoint right now with the gardener. People are exceptionally hot under the collar the three-year timeline for the latest round of road repairs on the stretch between dufferin and strachan. >> Having major impacts on toronto traffic. You draft your. >> Your best plans right? >> And then >> Your plan suddenly go right? Councillors has spent the day battling over whose idea it was to speed up the road work. And when rob bradford putting the plan before council. The mayor insisting seth had already been working on it for weeks now at her request. It is not fair to all staff to say that nothing has been done. It just because we want to score political points, that's not to this. >> We want. Much pasta construction. >> Foster construction that is now one step closer to happening. City council unanimously asking staff or plan to accelerate the gardiner repairs, including the possibility of 24/7 construction. Well, considering the impacts to the local community own. >> To tens of thousands of residents, residents who live right next to this active construction area. >> The city's experts now charged with finding concrete ways to tighten the timeline. City staff can start to bring the changes in work schedule to make that in place. The report back in july will just be for the confirmation of what can be done. Also looking at if there is more precipitation that we don't. I'm still concerned that we might not be aggressive, but to really see that type of results and people ought to demand from city council. But this is a staff we need to. >> Ahh come together. >> And say huge project. We can always improve, but let's do it together. >> Staff will have 2 months to put together a plan to fast track the construction that has slowed down the city. Natalie johnson reporting there. It's a scenario drivers across the country can relate to hitting a pothole so large that actually damages your vehicle. >> Well, that's exactly what happened last night to a few unfortunate drivers in calgary.

ctv's mason depatie has more. >> The pothole is just behind me on 16th avenue in the curb lane, which is a major thoroughfare through calgary. It does seem to have some fixes to it. There's still a large hole, some pylons next to it. When ctv news got here yesterday, there were several drivers who had to pull off into this runoff area that had damage to their vehicles, many of which with bent rims. They say they all called 3, 1, to get it repaired. This, of course, isn't the only big pothole in the city. Ctv news has received several other emails about large ones. It's been a busy spring for road crews. They say they filled more than 6700 so far this year. >> That comes after a record-setting at 33,000 potholes filled last year city of calgary prioritizes pothole repairs based on several factors, including safety impacts of verity in location. The city says hyper real locations can be filled within 5 business days after inspection. Where is a lower priority ones in alleys and other roadways can be filled within one to 2 months of inspection for the people that end up hitting them. It's an upsetting experience. Ctv news has reached out to the city to see how many potholes are still left to be filled from an earlier update this month. They said they had received 4,000 requests so far this year. That's up about 15% from last year. Back to you. >> Alright, ctv's mason depatie reporting from calgary. Thanks. Mason. We've never not succeeded. We've every single person that's been on our list. We found. >> I could before. And dave jung story is about to be added to the list at lollies. His story all over facebook and instagram and that hopefully a living donor stepped forward to help save them. (lively upbeat music) >> A group of women in bc is going off road to participate in the challenging mountain bike race this weekend. You ctv's andy garland has more from nanaimo. >> It's called murder hornet made an all-women's under a mountain bike race, which riders are timed on their distance. It's named after a fictional mountain in the fictional town of springfield. >> It's a loosely based. Simpson's referenced. >> But the foothills of the animals about benson is the setting in real life as 170 plus women writers region from kids to seniors of all different abilities will be shredding their skills. The saturday get really polls, a lot of people and who would never really consider racing just a really great atmosphere of women supporting women writers from up and down vancouver island as well as the mainland will be making the track to get a chance to be involved in a race atmosphere exclusively for women. Mountain biking is becoming a big tourist draw for nanaimo. So I think we we bring in a lot of dollars put on by the nanaimo mountain bike club murder. Her maiden started 3 years ago to create equity in space for women in the sport. It's one of only a few all-female reese's that exist in a mountain bike increase region of bc. If we want women to participate in sports like this, that are largely male dominated. We need to create the space and encourage women to come out and give it a try. And the word is getting note apparently. Participants in this year's race has increased by 65% over last year. I think it's pulling a lot of people out of their shell, getting a lot more women writing this, you know, mort tricky network. I like being in the forest and they don't like running. So this was a very good mix between the 2. >> Whether it's your first time or you're an experienced rider murder hard. Madden is geared towards anyone who wants to have fun and hone their skills alongside other women who love the sport and want to see it grow. Andy garland, ctv news. Protecting what matters most... you. [crash] >> The question it. >> And then you know, my kit >> That was a clip from the very apocalyptic action-packed film furiosa in mad max saga. And joining us now to talk more about the movies of the week is film critic richard crouse. Richard, always good to see you. Thanks for being here. Thanks for having me. I know first up, we have the much anticipated prequel to mad max fury road furiosa in mad max august, starring chris hemsworth and anya taylor. Joy. The film premiere to good responses at the cannes film festival. All your thoughts. >> Well, at the end of that clip that we just showed chris centre says something like do you have what it takes to make pack? And director george miller who's been making mad max movie is now for 45 years. Certainly does this is a prequel to the don't fury road. As you said, that's sorry. Charlie spare and originate the role of the warrior furiosa. This is the origin story she has now played by anya taylor joy in this film. And it's a revenge movie, such an apocalyptic the city's a broken down there is still a wasteland where most of this movie happens that is controlled by 2 or 3 warlords. Chris hemsworth plays one of those warlords. But really, I can tell you about the part of this movie, but it doesn't really matter that much. You'll figure it out when you go see it. >> What you need to know about this is that george miller has not lost a step in terms of making these actions sequences that will make the eyes pop out of your there's one sequence in particular in this will be called the stowaway sequence that he told me took 78 days to film and as you see it reminded me of that old joke were be used to advertise monster truck rallies. You'll pay for the whole seat, but you'll only use the edge because you'll keep edging forward in your seat. Just see what happens next. It's absolutely I popping really interesting to look at and it's a worthy addition to the mad max story. So I gave it 4 out of 5 stars and it's in theatres right okay. >> Next, we have richard linklater's hit man. Are you impressed by this thrilling romcom? I'm sure was. >> This was my favourite film out of the most recent toronto international film festival. Glenn powell gary, who is a fairly boring college professor by as a sideline, keep entrapment by his local police department, where they have someone to dress up a hit man. And then try and get people to volunteer information about wanting their husband or wife or business associate. Whoever might be killed. And then they swoop in to arrest him. >> When the cop who usually does it becomes ill. Gary subs in the turns out, he's really good at it. So he dawn's disguises, becomes the best probably in the whole police department at this and tell one day he leads the young woman who wants her husband killed, he falls for her, she falls for him. He's convinced she's innocent. But there might be more to the story. This hasn't seen it near the end of the film, about three-quarters of the way through the movies that is so well written so well performed, it is slap stick. It is markets funny that it actually got a round of applause from the audience that I saw it with them. You don't see that the movie is very often this is entertaining top to bottom gold hit man. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars and it's in theatres right fantastic. Next. We have the garfield movie, which you know, at first blush feels like a bit of a been there, done that. So what's different about this

one? >> Well, what's different about this one is that it's not really a garfield show, although it stars garfield who is now forced by chris pratt and and he looks pretty much like he does come a comic strips. But in the comic strips, he's of sardonic blues on your loving cat who loves to take naps asleep not really do that much in terms of any sort of physical activity. Now in this film, he's placed in the middle of a huge heist. He is on the one constantly and it just doesn't feel like garfield. It feels more like a generic action movie for kids. And I think that kids 10 or 11 years old or so cross may get a real kick out of this it's colourful, you know, entertaining and it goes by it and speed of light up. There's a lot of gags and here, I think that will really appeal to kids. Parents left. So I think >> But it's not really a, it does not really feel like a garfield movie. So I gave it 2 and a half out of 5 stars and it's in theatres right now. >> Can you give us an extremely quick review of our last one called aims. >> Davis is a story of friendship between 2 women died is post heartfelt, humorous kind of raunchy and never met a bodily function. It would make a joke about I like this one a lot. If you want to just laugh and have a good time with interesting characters paid is it for you? I get 3 and a half out of 5 stars and it's in theatres right now. Wonderful. All right. Richard crouse, film critic, thank you as always for being here. Thank you for having me. >> Coming up, the international court of justice borders israel to immediately halt its operation in rafah. We will have those details just after the break. Stay with us.
