Crystal Palace vs Tottenham LIVE!
Tottenham opened a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace as their unbeaten start to the season continued on Friday. Ange Postecoglou's side were matched by London rivals Palace throughout an even opening period but took charge once a Joel Ward own goal gave them the lead shortly after the break.
Spurs captain Heung-min Son then tapped in his eighth league goal of the season after 66 minutes to effectively seal the points and the visitors were in cruise control until Jordan Ayew struck in stoppage time for Palace.
Tottenham's eighth win from 10 games put them on 26 points -- their best start to a top-flight season since 1960-61. They are five points clear of champions Manchester City and Arsenal, who have yet to play this weekend. Read the game back below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from both Dan Kilpatrick and Dom Smith at Selhurst Park this evening.

VAR take a long look over a possible handball but it's given.
21:49 , Alex Young

Dom Smith at Selhurst Park
21:28 , Alex Young
A killer for Palace who were just about to make another substitution but now find themselves 2-0 down.
Son — absolutely anonymous to this point — to double Spurs’s lead.
GOAL!
21:26 , Alex Young
66min: Instant impact from Johnson as he runs onto Maddison's flick to in turn feed Son to fire home!
Spurs two up and, as it stands, going five points clear.
21:23 , Alex Young
64min: Johnson and Hojbjerg on for Richarlison and Bissouma.
Bissouma escaped a yellow so will be available to face Chelsea.
21:22 , Alex Young
62min: Spurs are just playing the ball between centre-backs and goalkeeper at the moment, inviting Palace onto them as the home fans whistle their disapproval.
Looks like Postecoglou is going to make some more changes.
Dom Smith at Selhurst Park
21:21 , Alex Young
Half an hour for Jesurun Rak-Sakyito try and make an impression for Palace.
The 21-year-old was outstanding on loan at Charlton Athletic last season and Roy Hodgson has really tried to give him chances in the early months of this campaign.
21:20 , Alex Young
60min: Rak-Sakyi is on for Schlupp. A new face in attack then.
21:18 , Alex Young
59min: Palace readying some changes.
Dan Kilpatrick at Selhurst Park
21:17 , Alex Young
This felt like one of those games where Spurs were going to need something special or a slice of luck to get the breakthrough, and it's very much the latter as Joel Ward turns Maddison's cross into his own net.
Palace will have to open up more now in search of a leveller.
21:16 , Alex Young
56min: Palace need to come out now and press Spurs. They win another corner and Guehi is so closer to an instant leveller, his header fizzing wide.
GOAL!
21:13 , Alex Young
53min: Deadlock broken and Spurs still don't have a shot on target as Maddison's blistering effort is sailing out for a throw in but comes off Ward for an own goal.
21:12 , Alex Young
52min: Palace had to score. Schlupp gets the better of Royal and fires a ball across goal but Ayew is flat-footed and doesn't react before Sarr boots clear.
21:10 , Alex Young
50min: Kulusevski does brilliantly to keep the ball in and win a corner... but then kicks the corner delivery straight to Hughes. Baffling.
21:08 , Alex Young
48min: The first thing Spurs need to do is get a shot on target. I don't think Porro's deflected cross into Johnstone's arms counts.
Second half!
21:04 , Alex Young
46min: Back underway.
21:03 , Alex Young
Royal on for Davies at the break, then. Postecoglou changing it up.
Dan Kilpatrick at Selhurst Park
20:52 , Alex Young
A stodgy first half, which was ultimately shaded by Palace in terms of chances.
This is basically a reminder to Spurs of what happens to good teams: opponents sit off and make it difficult.
Half-time
20:49 , Alex Young
48min: ...and that's that for the first half.
20:49 , Alex Young
47min: Sarr tries to find Kulusevski on the turn but the forward slips while collecting the ball. Sums Spurs up so far.
20:47 , Alex Young
45min: Van de Ven tries to catch the run of Maddison but there's too much on it and the ball rolls out for a throw in.
Two minutes added on.
20:45 , Alex Young
43min: Still no shot from Spurs.
20:43 , Alex Young
42min: Corner after corner goes begging for Palace. Spurs dealing with them well but are still giving Palace opportunities.
20:42 , Alex Young
40min: A succession of Palace corners here as we reach the 40th-minute mark. Hodgson’s side eyeing a shock (though perhaps not undeserved) lead before the break.
20:40 , Alex Young
39min: Another half-chance for Spurs as Son does brilliantly to feed Maddison on the edge of the area with a nice disguised pass but Doucoure boots clear as Maddison was about to pull the trigger.
20:39 , Alex Young
38min: Perhaps Spurs' best chance (which says a lot) as Davies squeezes a ball inside the six-yard box as the Palace defenders leave it for Johnstone who just about collects with Son waiting.
20:38 , Alex Young
37min: Hughes takes and it's straight into Vicario's hands.
20:37 , Alex Young
36min: It's fair to say Van de Ven is fine as he scampers back to clear the ball away from an advancing Ayew. He is so quick. Palace win the corner, though...
20:35 , Alex Young
34min: A pause in play as Van de Ven now needs some attention after being fouled. He should be fine though.
20:34 , Alex Young
32min: Romero now getting booed for being fouled. Gotta love football fans.
20:33 , Alex Young
31min: Edouard is lucky to escape a booking. He's quite cynically shoulder-barged Romero, who was looking at taking the ball down.
20:32 , Alex Young
30min: Half an hour gone and not too much in the way of chances for either. Palace managing Spurs very well.
Dan Kilpatrick at Selhurst Park
20:29 , Alex Young
Palace are so well-drilled, this always feels like a stadium where the first goal is vital. Spurs are seeing more of the ball but struggling to make inroads in the final third."
20:27 , Alex Young
24min: More joy for the Palace fans as Sarr air-kicks a cross after doing well to get to the byline. Son poised to pounce but no dice.
20:26 , Alex Young
23min: Half a handball shout for Palace in the Spurs penalty area as the ball bounces off Schlupp and then Richarlison but VAR are not interested.
Dom Smith at Selhurst Park
20:24 , Alex Young
Plenty of possession for Spurs so far, without ever looking particularly likely to make the breakthrough. Palace have defended steadfastly and have looked dangerous on the counter, coming close through Ayew and Edouard.
Tottenham’s control growing, but Ange Postecoglou’s men must do more with the ball.
20:22 , Alex Young
20min: Richarlison is getting involved. A nice one-two with Davies to bring the forward into a central position and have a shot, but it's not bothering the keeper.
20:19 , Alex Young
17min: Richarlison does brilliantly to keep a deep, hanging cross in at the back post, heading down for Maddison to blaze a volley over. Cue loud jeers.
20:18 , Alex Young
16min: Bissouma wins the argument with Maddison over taking the free kick... and it sails 40 yards high and wide. Maddison will take the next one, I think.
20:18 , Alex Young
15min: Bissouma wins a free kick after being tripped around 40 yards out. It looked painful but he'll be OK.
20:15 , Alex Young
13min: Palace enjoying themselves down the left with Ayew, who floats a menacing-looking ball into the area which Vicario stretches to claim.
Far more even after a very uneven start.
20:13 , Alex Young
10min: Van de Ven goes down after being tripped by Hughes. Free kick given. Spurs need to calm down a bit.
20:10 , Alex Young
8min: Another great save from Vicario to deny Ayew from the edge of the area!
Well, well, well. That'll give the hosts plenty of confidence.
20:09 , Alex Young
7min: First shot on target falls to Palace. Van de Ven looks to have cleared the danger after a run from Hughes but the midfielder finds Ayew for a blistering shot at goal which Vicario must parry.
20:08 , Alex Young
6min: A nice move between Davies and Richarlison almost comes off as the former's backheel is a metre too far in front of the latter near the edge of the area.
20:06 , Alex Young
4min: Maddison gets his first bit of space on the ball and looks for Son, but the pass is overhit. Palace on the ball.
20:04 , Alex Young
3min: Not sure Palace have touched the ball yet. Home fans in plenty of voice though.
20:03 , Alex Young
2min: Tottenham seeing plenty of the ball in the early stages, as expected.
Kick-off
20:01 , Alex Young
1min: And we are under way!

Here come the teams. Squashed in the narrow tunnel.
Dom Smith at Selhurst Park
19:53 , Alex Young
Tottenham won this fixture 4-0 last season in January despite Crystal Palace having much the better chances in a first half which ended goalless.
"Antonio Conte was in the Tottenham dugout that day, and Patrick Vieira — having real difficulties of his own — was managing Palace. A heck of a lot has happened at both clubs since…
19:51 , Alex Young
It's almost time. The teams are back in their dressing rooms.
Dan Kilpatrick at Selhurst Park
19:43 , Alex Young
The return of Rodrigo Bentancur is a welcome boost for Spurs, although I suspect it's unlikely the Uruguayan will get off the bench tonight, particularly with Hojbjerg, Skipp and Lo Celso also in reserve.
The loss of Destiny Udogie is a blow, however. The left-back has been a revelation in the inverted role this season and his forward runs and pressing will be missed. Yves Bissouma is back in but must avoid a booking to be available to face Chelsea next Monday.
'Why I'm keeping shtum on Tottenham winning the Premier League'
19:37 , Alex Young
If you are a Tottenham Hotspur fan do not say it, do not whisper it, do not write it on a piece of paper, fold it up and hide it at the back of a cupboard. Do not discuss it with friends and family at awkward social gatherings, or nodding acquaintances at bus stops. Do not be tempted into mentioning it to a cabbie while making small talk. Do not scrawl it on your hand in biro when bored at work.
If someone who supports another team wants to bring “it” up then change the subject quicker than someone who owes you money does. Don’t even dream about “it”. The “it” that I am talking about is the prospect of Spurs winning the league.

Will Hughes to Sky Sports
19:29 , Alex Young
"We can accept losing games but the manner we lost last week was unacceptable. It is a cliche but we need a reaction tonight.
"It's fine margins in football. Every team you come up against is going to be brilliant. But it is fine margins.
"We are under no illusions how tough it is going to be. It is not by luck that they are at the top of the league."
Dom Smith at Selhurst Park
19:18 , Alex Young
No surprises really that Jean-Philippe Mateta drops to the bench, with Jeffrey Schlupp brought into the team as a makeshift right-winger and Odsonne Edouard up front.
That means Schlupp, Cheick Doucoure, Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes are four defensively-minded midfielders playing in various positions. Hodgson is clearly concerned about the attacking threat of Tottenham.
No Udogie
19:17 , Alex Young
Udogie doesn't make it for Spurs so Davies comes in a left-back. Bissouma is back after suspension for Hojbjerg drops out.
Postecoglou avoids the temptation to drop Richarlison after the forward's assist on Monday.

No Udogie?
18:48 , Alex Young
Early reports that Destiny Udogie has not been passed fit so does not make the squad.
Big Ange is not getting carried away
18:40 , Alex Young
Ange Postecoglou has played down the significance of Tottenham potentially moving five points clear. The manager insisted his primary focus is on improving the team after he was critical of their second-half display against Fulham.
"It doesn't really add any significance because whatever happens Friday night there's still a full round of Premier League fixtures to be played and nothing of any real significance comes of that," he said.
"We're in a good space at the moment but again we've still got plenty of work to do to make sure what we do now is sustainable. That's the main thing.
"It's not about making a short-term impact, it's about building something which hopefully brings sustained opportunities of success for the club.
"There is a really good reason no manager will talk about winning a title in October or November because we know there's a long way to go."
18:26 , Alex Young
The sun is setting over Selhurst Park.
Hodgson impressed by Postecoglou
18:20 , Alex Young
Roy Hodgson first encountered Ange Postecoglou when both were in charge of their national teams and the Australian brought his side to Sunderland's Stadium of Light for a pre-Euro 2016 friendly.
In the end it was a 2-1 victory for England and the following year it was Hodgson on a plane destined for Down Under, en route to Melbourne for a short-term contract to advise A-League side Melbourne City where he was further impressed by what he saw from the Socceroos boss.
He said: "It depends on what you mean by adaptation to the Premier League. I think needing time to adapt to the Premier League is more relevant to players than coaches or managers.
"I think sometimes they do, especially when they come from a different country, come from abroad, a totally different culture, because of the intensity of the Premier League, the fierceness, the lack of time and space that's there for you and the physicality, that can be very different to a player.
"Coming from Celtic, playing in front of 60,000 or 70,000 people every week, being in the Champions League, coaching Australia, being at the very best club in Japan, I don't know if you need a lot of adaptation to come to the Premier League.
"He might have been a bit of an unknown or a surprise to a lot of people in the country, but he certainly was no surprise to me."
Postecoglou rubbishes Kane claims
18:09 , Alex Young
Ange Postecoglou has rubbished the suggestion that Tottenham are a better side without Harry Kane, but says the striker’s departure has enabled him to create a “different dynamic”.
Spurs appeared as reliant on Kane as ever when he scored four times in a friendly win over Shakhtar Donetsk in his final appearance for the club, but other players, notably Heung-min Son and James Maddison, have stepped up since the season started.
“I’m not into this commentary that we’re a better team without Harry because the last game Harry played for us he did alright in our system when he scored four goals,” Postecoglou told Standard Sport ahead of his side’s visit to Selhurst Park.
“We’d have been able to squeeze him in somewhere — and I’m being sarcastic there.
“But him not being there just allows us to bring different individuals into the team and they change the dynamic.
“While the way I want my teams to play has a clear structure, what I try to do is create a balanced squad where individuals can change the dynamics of it.
“Having Sonny as our No9 is different to having Harry or Richy [Richarlison] as our No9. Not having Harry there does change us as a team because we’re using different individuals but if Harry was here the structure would be the same and we’d have the same fundamentals of trying to dominate the opposition and press the opposition.”
Prediction
17:56 , Alex Young
This could be considered the first test of Tottenham's supposed title credentials. Under the lights at Selhurst Park is still a fixture to fear - just ask Arsenal and Manchester United in recent years, and Spurs themselves - and a win will take them five points clear, so the pressure is there.
But this Spurs team are also to be feared, and this Palace team is lacking in that area. It will be a close affair, but the visitors should kick off the weekend with a win.
Spurs to win, 2-0.
Crystal Palace team news
17:50 , Alex Young
Crystal Palace have lost young defender Nathan Ferguson to a fresh injury blow ahead of the game.
The Eagles' Under-21s match against Monaco was Ferguson’s first 90 minutes since January 2022 due to a succession of injury setbacks.
Ferguson will need surgery on what is believed to be a serious hamstring injury in the latest major blow to the player.
Discussing the fitness levels of the rest of his squad, Hodgson said: “We don’t have so many now out of the question. But we still have Henderson the goalkeeper, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, so there quite big names. Add to that James Tomkins, who has picked up a calf strain."
Tottenham team news
17:44 , Alex Young
Tottenham are deciding whether to risk Destiny Udogie tonight after the defender suffered from muscle tightness in the recent win over Fulham.
If the left-back is not deemed fit enough to start against Palace at Selhurst Park, Ben Davies, who has recovered from a knock of his own, could deputise at left-back.
Ange Postecoglou has no other fresh injury concerns ahead of tonight's game in south London, with Pape Sarr available after illness and Yves Bissouma back in contention following a one-match ban.
Brennan Johnson is pushing to replace Richarlison in the front three, while the likes of Bryan Gil, Alejo Veliz and Giovani Lo Celso will all be hoping for more minutes from the bench.
"The two main ones from the other night are Pape and Destiny," Postecoglou said Thursday. "Pape is fine, he bounced back sort of 24 hours after the game. He had a bit of an illness but has trained well. Destiny we are still going to assess.
"Obviously it is a short turnaround from the other night. We'll have a look today, see how things go and make a decision after that. Everyone else has come through fine and is available."
Rodrigo Bentancur is back in full training but is unlikely to be included in the squad, with the Uruguayan targeting a November return to action, while Ryan Sessegnon remains some way off following hamstring surgery in the summer.
