Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

14:44

Liverpool complete a late second-half turnaround to take all three points from Selhurst Park, with goals, cards and VAR drama making for one hell of a spectacle! Awarded a penalty by VAR's intervention some two minutes after the initial challenge, Palace took full advantage as Mateta slotted home the opener. With Liverpool still being restricted to half-chances, Palace looked to be heading for a historic victory, but all that changes 15 minutes from time when Ayew's needless challenge yielded his second yellow card. The Eagles didn't even get chance to organise themselves when down to 10 men, as Salah struck home the equaliser from close range less than 100 seconds later, netting his 200th goal for Liverpool in the process. From there, the Reds laid siege to Palace's box, and hit the jackpot a minute into the 10 added on for stoppages. Harvey Elliott cruised through the middle to curl in a sumptuous winner, and despite a late chance for Andersen and flurry of yellow cards for both sides, Liverpool held on to secure a comeback victory which sends them to the summit of the Premier League table.

Palace boss Hodgson has lost each of his last eight Premier League games against former club Liverpool, since a 1-0 win with West Brom in April 2012. Indeed, managers to have previously taken charge of Liverpool in the Premier League have lost 17 of their last 19 games against the Reds in the competition, the exceptions being two Brendan Rodgers wins with Leicester in 2021.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:52

PENALTY!!! What's happened here then? VAR has advised the referee to take a second look at Quansah's previous challenge on Mateta in the box, and replays show that there is indeed contact! Even though that passage of play occurred several minutes ago, the referee points to the spot and Palace have a chance to open the scoring from 12 yards here!

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:36

Only a miraculous Alisson save prevented him scoring the opener, but Jefferson Lerma has been impressive regardless in Palace's midfield. His goalbound shot had 0.5 xG behind it, and the Colombian has also completed more touches and passes than any other Palace player, completing nine balls into the final third. Lerma has also come up with possession a game-high six times, winning three of four duels, one tackle and one free-kick apiece. Engine.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:30

It's goalless at the break in south London, with Liverpool yet to really find their rhythm and the hosts going closest to an opener so far. The Reds controlled much of the ball in the opening 25 minutes or so, but couldn't create anything in the final third thanks to staunch, organised Palace defence. The Eagles flew up the other end and had the only real guilt-edge chance of the game moments later, with Alisson recovering well to deny Lerma with a double save. VAR intervened to deny Palace a penalty after Van Dijk took Edouard to ground, with an earlier foul from Hughes on Endo giving Liverpool an almighty let-off. Klopp's side did build some impetus towwards the back end of the half with Salah and Szoboszlai having shots blocked, but this is still anyone's game with the second half coming up.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:25

HALF-TIME: CRYSTAL PALACE 0-0 LIVERPOOL.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:21

Diaz bursts past Ward on the inside and looks to combine with Gravenberch and Nunez in the middle, but the latter's final ball doesn't stick and Ayew gets back to recover possession for Palace.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:19

Tsimikas and Nunez come forward for Liverpool and the Uruguayan drifts inside before teeing up Endo, but Schlupp's intervention sends the ball behind for a corner before the midfielder can pick out a shot or pass.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:12

Another Ward free-kick sails into the box, but a mix-up between Alisson and Van Dijk sees both players go for the ball, with the latter sending a header spiralling into the air before it's collected by his goalkeeper!

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:11

Play halts momentarily as an injury to Edouard is assessed, and Palace's French striker is taken off the pitch for now, but you'd imagine he'll be able to continue.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:10

Since the start of last season, Liverpool have won just one of their seven Premier League away games kicking off at 12:30pm on a Saturday, beating Wolves 3-1 in September. Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:08

Yellow Card Joel Edward Philip Ward

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:08

NO PENALTY!!! Hughes does get into quite the tangle with Endo on the edge of Liverpool's box, and the contact is enough for the referee to reverse his initial decision! Palace are denied a spot kick, but you can't help feel that Liverpool have gotten away with one there!

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:06

Replays are suggesting a foul on Endo from Hughes to kick-start that Palace attack, and the referee is heading over to the pitch-side monitor for an even closer look!

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:06

Is it a penalty? Endo is caught out in possession by Hughes as he collects a Van Dijk pass, and the Palace midfielder feeds Edouard in the box. He looks to beat Van Dijk but is brought down by the Liverpool defender, and the referee has no hesitation in pointing straight to the spot! The referee's also reaching for a card, but the VAR officials are asking him to double-check this...

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

13:03

SAVED!!! A miraculous stop keeps Palace at bay! The hosts break at speed as Ayew charges into open space down the right-hand side. His low cross into the middle is missed by Edoaurd but met by Lerma, whose first-time shot is heading for the bottom corner! Alisson's initial save doesn't get enough on it, but the goalkeeper retreats brilliantly to claw the goalbound ball off the post and the line at full stretch!

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

12:56

Another cross-field free-kick from Palace is brought down superbly by Schlupp, who takes Alexander-Arnold on down the byline and wins a corner off the Liverpool defender.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

12:55

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 26 Premier League matches, a 2-1 defeat to Spurs in September. Since they lost to Man City in April, the Reds have won more points than any other side in the competition (59).

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

12:54

Guehi brings down a high ball and sets off on the charge for Palace. He plays a smart one-two with Lerma on the turn and spreads it wide to Ayew, but the Ghanaian's cross for his captain is cleared by the Liverpool defence.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

12:53

With an average age of exactly 29 years, this is Crystal Palace's oldest starting XI in the Premier League since a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in May 2021, during which the average age was just one day short of 30 years.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

12:51

12:46

Quansah's clearance is brought back down the left flank by Schlupp, whose cross deflects behind off Alexander-Arnold for the game's first corner.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

12:43

A smart inside ball from Gravenberch opens up space on the right for Salah, who finds Tsimikas in the box before the Greek left-back has a shot deflected clear!

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

12:41

Palace captain Ward is making his 148th Premier League appearance at Selhurst Park, overtaking Wilfried Zaha (147) for the most games played there in the competition.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

12:40

Ward's long free-kick into the Liverpool box is nodded down by Richards and flicked towards goal by Lerma, but Van Dijk heads clear before Guehi can get his head to the ball.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

12:39

Crystal Palace haven't won any of their last 12 Premier League meetings with Liverpool, of which they've lost 10 - their longest ongoing winless run against an opponent.
